Job description

JOB SUMMARY

Manage all aspects of maintenance on production equipment and facilities. Drive uptime improvement efforts by implementing a preventive maintenance program and coordinating all corrective maintenance activities. Ensure that proper staffing, training, tools, and maintenance plans are in place to maximize equipment availability in the most cost-efficient manner. The Press Maintenance Trainer is responsible for developing and delivering comprehensive training programs aimed at equipping maintenance personnel with the knowledge and skills needed to ensure optimal functioning of press machinery. This role involves designing instructional materials, conducting hands-on training, evaluating trainee performance, and keeping training programs updated with the latest industry standards and technological advancements according to Gestamp Automotive standards. This position will support Press and maintenance to minimize downtime and seek continuous improvement activities to improve operations of the Press Department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and implement training programs for press maintenance, covering operational procedures, troubleshooting, and safety protocols of the maintenance department.
  • Responsible to ensure safe work practices are being utilized at all times by the members of the maintenance department.
  • Provide hands-on training on press machinery, including hydraulic and mechanical systems.
  • Documentation: Develop and maintain training materials, manuals, and records.
  • Responsible for maximizing machine uptime on all production equipment.
  • Work closely with production management to schedule maintenance activities based on equipment, manpower, and spare parts availability.
  • Develop and maintain training materials, manuals, and records.
  • Assess trainees' performance and provide constructive feedback.
  • Use a data driven approach to continuous improvement.
  • Assist in locating and purchasing materials required to complete maintenance activities.
  • Ensure that an appropriate inventory of spare parts is maintained.
  • Implement a proactive approach to maintenance including predictive maintenance activities such as infrared, vibration, and oil analysis. 
  • Utilize the CMMS system for logging all maintenance activities and driving lessons learned.
  • Ensure all technical materials and training is available as required to support the maintenance technicians.
  • Ensure all training adheres to industry safety standards and regulations.
  • Assist with 8D and problem resolution for qualities issues related to equipment performance.
  •    Follow all state, federal, OSHA and Gestamp health, safety, environmental laws, regulations policies and procedures.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Four-year college degree in Engineering or similar is preferred.
  • 8 to10 years industrial maintenance experience in automotive industry
  • Hot stamping, sheet metal, robotic welding, material handling, laser cutting and shot blasting experience.
  • Experience with CMMS programs - preferably SAP PM.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Comprehensive knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and components.
  • In-depth knowledge of press machinery and maintenance techniques.
  • Strong Leadership skills
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Microsoft Office skills to include: Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • Relevant certifications in press maintenance or automotive manufacturing may be preferred.
  • Prior experience in press maintenance and training is often required.
  • Ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly.
  •  In-depth knowledge of press machinery and maintenance techniques.

Press Maintenance Manager

Job Summary

The Press Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading all maintenance activities related to stamping press equipment, ensuring optimal uptime, safety, and production efficiency. This role oversees preventive and predictive maintenance programs, manages maintenance teams, and collaborates cross-functionally to support continuous improvement in a high-volume automotive manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, train, and develop maintenance technicians and supervisors
  • Schedule and assign daily maintenance activities
  • Foster a safety-first and continuous improvement culture
  • Oversee maintenance and repair of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems on stamping presses
  • Ensure maximum uptime and reliability of press lines (transfer, progressive, tandem systems, etc.)
  • Manage troubleshooting and root cause analysis for equipment failures
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance (PM) schedules
  • Utilize predictive maintenance tools and data to reduce downtime
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and equipment history
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental, and company safety standards
  • Lead safety training and conduct regular audits
  • Ensure proper lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures are followed
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment performance and reduce costs
  • Support lean manufacturing, TPM (Total Productive Maintenance), and Kaizen initiatives
  • Drive improvements in OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness)
  • Manage maintenance budget, parts inventory, and cost control initiatives
  • Coordinate with external vendors and contractors for repairs and upgrades
  • Source and evaluate spare parts and equipment upgrades
  • Work closely with production, engineering, and quality teams
  • Support new equipment installations, launches, and process improvements

Qualifications

  • 10+ years Tool & Die experience; Journeyman card required
  • 4+ years automotive tooling experience preferred
  • Experience with large metal stampings and robotic welding
  • Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles
  • Ability to read electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic prints
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, CATIA V6, and Microsoft Office
  • Strong communication, leadership, and multitasking skills
