Job description

  1. SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for providing highly specialized medical patient care, diagnosis, and treatment the geriatric population of patients. The geriatric nurse practitioner will promote a healthy and active lifestyle and pair patients with resources and treatment plans to attain and maintain well-being and independent living for the geriatric patient population.

  1. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Providing robust, well-informed preventative treatment.
  2. Diagnosing innocuous and harmful physiological anomalies.
  3. Proposing resource-specific treatment regimens.
  4. Pinpointing assistive gadgets that alleviate pressing health-related symptoms.
  5. Fitting or instructing on the positioning of assistive technologies.
  6. Gauging the applicability of prescribed treatments.
  7. Reconfiguring ineffective regimens with urgency.
  8. Issuing pertinent referral documents when needed.
  9. Properly code diagnosis and treatment and updating their charts.
  10. Advocate for each patient's needs.
  11. Educate patients and their families on healthy eating and mental exercise.
  12. Engage patients in their treatment and wellness objectives to foster long-term independence.
  13. Provide support and care for patients with terminal illnesses, assisting them and families during end-of-life decisions.
  14. Provide for organization and maintenance of an effective system of medical care with emphasis on wellness and prevention of illness.
  15. Provide an effective communication link between the Chief Medical Officer and non-management employees of the medical department.
  16. Performs studies/analysis to determine impact for:
    1. Healthcare outcomes.
    2. Policy change positives or negatives.
    3. Departmental efficiencies
    4. Other areas, as requested by the Chief Medical Officer and/or Chief Executive Officer to assist in administrative decision-making.
  17. Supervision of students.
  18. Diagnosis and treatment of patients.
  19. Perform EKG and pulmonary function test interpretation.
  20. Non-invasive evaluation of gynecologic patients.
  21. Treatment of uncomplicated dermatological conditions.
  22. Treatment of acute back and neck pain, bursitis, tendonitis, tennis elbow, joint aspirations, abscess, etc.
  23. Perform excision and removal of foreign bodies from eyes and ears.
  24. Perform suturing of simple lacerations.
  25. Perform at the level and within the privileges bound by the nurse practitioner license.
  26. Communicate back to management the attitudes, suggestions, and complaints of employees in a constructive business manner.
  27. Lead and motivate the employees to do their jobs effectively and efficiently.
  28. Assist in the orientation, training, and supervision of the Medical Department support staff.
  29. Lead by example holding themselves to the standards of conduct and performance that they command of peers and subordinates.
