Our Tempe, AZ office has an excellent opportunity for a Geotechnical Field Engineer. The ideal candidate will have passed their PE (preferred) and have an interest in geotechnical and civil engineering, construction materials testing, and special inspection services. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.


Duties include, but not limited to, the following:


• Work with drill rigs and excavators to sample and classify soils
• Review aerial photography
• Assist in analysis of soil to determine engineering characteristics
• Assist in writing geotechnical reports
• Review engineering drawings and reports
• Collect and oversee soil sampling using borings and test pits
• Perform and oversee laboratory tests
• Assist in making recommendations regarding foundation design, soil bearing pressures, slope stability, and lateral earth pressures
• Perform sampling and testing of concrete, masonry, grout, asphalt, and soil
• Problem solves with job site contractors


Skills and Requirements – minimum qualifications for the position include:


• Civil Engineer (PE preferred but not required)
• Have or be able to obtain, certifications including MSHA, ACI Field, ACI Strength, ATTI Field, ATTI Soils & Aggregate, ATTI Asphalt, ICC Structural Special Inspector
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
• Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills
• Willingness to learn and accept new challenges


This position requires some overnight travel throughout the southwest. Must have a clean motor vehicle record and pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
Physical Demands

  • Physical examination required to obtain medical clearance to work
  • Ability to stoop, kneel and to routinely lift and carry 50 pounds
  • Clean driving record and capable of being insured for driving company vehicles
  • Able to work in variable outside conditions, including extreme heat or cold if need
