Job description

Koniag IT Systems, LLC is seeking a Lead Data Scientist to spearhead geospatial application programming efforts for our federal customers. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in data science, machine learning, and geospatial software development. This role requires someone who can lead complex analytical projects, mentor team members, and develop innovative solutions using cutting-edge spatial analysis techniques and programming frameworks. This position requires an active TS/SCI clearance.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor of Science degree: 8-10 years of experience in a related field.
  • Master of Science degree: 6-8 years of experience in a related field.
  • PhD: 3-5 years of experience in a related field

Essential responsibilities, Functions, & Duties
  • The Lead Data Scientist will provide Geospatial Information System (GIS) support as required to produce Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT) products and web services.
  • The Lead Data Scientist will provide software application programming support as required for Surf Eagle operational production and dissemination requirements.
  • improving operational production methods that utilize geospatial technologies and scientific principles to transition new capabilities to support both internal and external Surf Eagle requirements.
  • The Lead Data Scientist will monitor all automated GIS production workflows daily, troubleshoot and correct issues when found, and report the status as directed.
  • The Lead Data Scientist will implement applicable software application programming standards to improve interoperability of products and applications in accordance with the most current DoD Application STIGs.
  • The contractor will ensure all GIS products, applications, and web services are technically sound and adhere to relevant DoD and IC approved standards and regulations as defined in the NSG Standards Registry
  • The Lead Data Scientist will collaborate with system administrators, database administrators and analyst experts to transition GIS products, applications, and web services to operations

Required Skills and Competencies:
  • Work independently or as part of a team as needed.
  • Proficiency using various methods for infusing METOC and intelligence data to produce and monitor applications, products and web services that answer specific spatial questions using multidimensional visualization, and modeling methods.
  • Understanding of GIS analysis methodologies, automated workflows and mapping solutions, customized GIS toolsets, spatial visualization of derived data, and all of the standard associated Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) documentation (i.e. Project Plan, CONOPS, Functional Design Documents, Software Architecture Plans, System Requirements Specifications, Database Design Documents, Test Plans, User Acceptance Test Plans, etc.)
  • Understanding of NSG Metadata Implementation Specifications (NMIS), World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), International Standards Organization (ISO) 19000 series for geographic information, GIS quality standards, Intelligence Community Marking System Register and Manual Security /Classification markings and other established design policies for GIS management.
