Rogue Risk Analysis Group (RRAG) - Team Leader

Apogee Global RMS

San Jose, CA โ€ข On-site, Remote

Contractor

Job description

About Apogee Global RMS:
Apogee Global RMS is a practitioner-led enterprise risk management (ERM) advisory firm based in San Jose, California. The firm operates on a single thesis - the Nexus of Risk - that enterprise risk is casually interconnected across strategic, financial, operational, reputational, geopolitical, and human domains. Apogee governs these domains as one discipline rather than isolated threats.
We serve North American small and mid-market enterprises and public-sector clients across financial services, healthcare, professional services, technology, and education. Apogee holds federal SDVOSB and California DVBE certifications.
About RRAG:
The Rogue Risk Analysis Group (RRAG) is Apogee's risk intelligence and research arm. RRAG produces subscription advisory products, executive briefings, and intelligence assessments built on the Nexus of Risk framework - twelve domains organized across casual, consequence, and environmental tiers. RRAG also drives the firm's thought-leadership engine, including the Risk Apogee podcast and the RRAG webinar series.
This role leads RRAG.
Position Overview:
The Team Leader, RRAG is a Senior research and analysis seat for a commercially minded analyst who reads the global landscape with rigor, writes with authority, and builds and runs a team. The Team Leader sets RRAG's intellectual agenda, owns a published product line, and develops the bench of analysts behind it.
This is a generalist leadership role by design - sitting at the intersection of business analysis, applied research, and geopolitical insight. The Team Leader translates complex world events into decision-grade intelligence for executives and boards.
As RRAG grows, the Team Leader will help recruit specialists, including a dedicated cyber analyst, to deepen the bench.
Key Responsibilities:
Leading RRAG
RRAG operates as a high-stakes, low-volume intelligence environment. Analysts are practitioners, not content producers. The Team Leader sets the bar for rigor, sourcing, and analytic voice.
  • Analytical authority: Uphold rigor, sourcing discipline, and analytic voice across all RRAG products.
  • Lean, expert teams: Build and direct a small bench of contract analysts; serve as connective tissue across analysts, advisors, SMEs, and firm leadership.
  • Intellectual ownership: Set RRAG's agenda and translate world events into concrete business risk and opportunity.
Research Agenda & Product Line
  • Set editorial and analytical direction across advisories, sector briefings, alerts, and subscription deliverables.
  • Own the publication calendar and quality of every RRAG product.
  • Maintain consistency of voice, sourcing, and analytical standards.
Published Analysis & Authorship
  • Publish sharp, well-sourced analysis on geopolitical, economic, regulatory, and cross-domain risk.
  • Produce decision-grade work for executive and board audiences.
  • Write with authority and stand behind published judgment.
Team Building & Leadership
  • Recruit, mentor, and manage contract analysts and future domain specialists.
  • Run weekly editorial planning and product reviews.
  • Build analytic tradecraft, workflows, and review discipline that scale.
OSINT & Analytic Tradecraft
  • Direct primary and open-source intelligence research across all twelve Nexus domains.
  • Apply structured analytic techniques to evaluate likelihood, impact, and intersection effects.
  • Maintain sourcing discipline and analytic traceability.
AI-Enabled Research Workflows
  • Build and refine AI-assisted research and drafting workflows that increase throughput without compromising rigor.
  • Govern AI use under strict review standards.
Public Representation
  • Anchor the Risk Apogee podcast, RRAG webinar series, and RRAG's LinkedIn presence.
  • Represent RRAG's analysis to executive and board-level audiences.

Requirements
Required Skills:
  • 6+ years in business analysis, applied research, intelligence analysis, or geopolitical/economic analysis with strong commercial orientation.
  • Exposure to national-security, intelligence, military, diplomatic, or regulated-industry environments.
  • Strong academic and public writing portfolio; candidates must provide 2-3 published or sanitized samples.
  • Demonstrated OSINT proficiency and structured analytic techniques.
  • Evidence of deliberate, effective use of AI tools in research and writing workflows.
  • Management experience: hiring, mentoring, and leading analysts or small teams.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; advanced degree strongly preferred.
Preferred Skills:
  • Familiarity with ERM frameworks (ISO 31000, COSO ERM, FAIR).
  • Experience in academic, think-tank, or institutional research.
  • Experience launching or running subscription-based intelligence or advisory products.
  • Experience supporting executive or board-level audiences.
Attributes for Success:
  • Sets a clear intellectual agenda and holds a high bar without micromanaging.
  • Writes with authority and confidence in published judgment.
  • Develops people and raises the standard of analysts around them.
  • Exercises strong judgment, discretion, and sourcing discipline under deadline.
  • Operates independently in an evolving, distributed environment.

Benefits
Engagement Terms:
  • Engagement Type: Contract role structured toward ongoing leadership.
  • Term: Initial six-month engagement; renewal based on performance and product demand.
  • Work Model: Fully remote (U.S.); occasional travel for client engagements or offsites.
  • Compensation: Market-competitive, commensurate with experience and scope.
  • Work Product: Apogee retains exclusive ownership; standard NDA and IP provisions apply.

How to Apply:
