Job description

Geomatics Technician I
(Reality Capture Data Processing)
About Ayoroa | Simmons
Ayoroa | Simmons, LLC is a specialized professional services firm focused on 3D laser scanning, scan-to-BIM, and BIM coordination for complex facilities and infrastructure. We partner with Government and private-sector clients to create accurate digital representations of the built environment that support better planning, operations, and decision-making.
We are seeking a Geomatics Technician I to join our growing Reality Capture Department and train into our point cloud registration and related geospatial data production workflows.
Position Overview
This is an entry point into our Reality Capture group for a candidate with experience in engineering, geomatics or related field, who brings a strong technical foundation, disciplined data/QA habits, and the ability to learn complex geomatics software quickly. The Geomatics Technician I works with our geomatics team, ramping into independent point cloud registration and related workflows.
Key Responsibilities
Point Cloud Registration & Processing (primary focus)

  • Import, register, and QC scan projects in Leica Register360 and Cyclone - this is the core, day-to-day responsibility of the role.
  • Support point cloud registration and processing using NavVis Ivion.
  • Shadow and progressively take ownership of related data processing tasks in a variety of software platforms.
  • Assist in review of OPUS reports and control point observations to support the accuracy of registered datasets.
  • Support review of aerial photogrammetry and drone-captured imagery outputs - orthomosaics, dense point clouds, DSMs/DTMs.
Data & Workflow Automation
  • Identify and implement opportunities to automate file handling, standardize outputs, and improve QA/QC efficiency across registration and processing workflows.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce manual processing time in point cloud registration and QC workflows, and implement solutions to capture those efficiencies.
  • Improve the reliability and repeatability of data outputs delivered to project teams, reducing rework and downstream QC flags.
  • Contribute to more consistent file organization and delivery standards across projects, making datasets easier for the broader team to locate, use, and audit.
  • Strengthen documentation practices so that processing decisions and QC checks are traceable and repeatable by others on the team.
Field Support
  • Assist with terrestrial 3D laser scanning in diverse field environments (offices, utility spaces, exterior campus sites).
  • Assist with control surveys, topographic surveys, and existing-conditions surveys using established field procedures and technologies.
  • Help coordinate field activities with internal teams and project stakeholders to support accuracy and schedule alignment.
  • Maintain scanning/survey equipment and follow established field procedures and safety practices.
  • Occasional support to field crews for terrestrial/mobile scanning and conventional survey data collection, leveraging prior land surveying and site experience.
  • Additional strategic assignments as assigned by executive leadership.
Success Profile
In the first 6-months, success looks like:
  • Achieving independent proficiency in Register360/Cyclone registration and QC for standard project types.
  • Demonstrating the technical judgment and documentation discipline to work independently on standard production tasks with light senior oversight.
Qualifications
Required:
  • B.S. in engineering, geomatics, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2+ years of experience in a technical, data-intensive, or built-environment-adjacent role (project controls, field surveying, or similar all qualify).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in data workflow tools appropriate to the role (e.g., scripting, database, or automation platforms).
  • Strong documentation habits and QA/QC discipline; ability to learn new specialized software quickly.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Comfortable with occasional fieldwork and travel (up to 50%).
Preferred:
  • Prior hands-on land surveying or site engineering experience.
  • EIT certification or equivalent technical credential.
  • Exposure to LiDAR, photogrammetry, or point cloud concepts.
  • Experience with project controls tools.
Why Join Us
At Ayoroa | Simmons, we invest in people and technology to deliver exceptional results in geomatics, remote sensing, and spatial data production. You will not be siloed into a single task, you will have direct influence over how our team grows, what tools we adopt, and which clients and markets we pursue. We offer:
  • 401(k) with 4% company match
  • Comprehensive health, dental, vision, and life insurance
  • Paid Time Off (PTO)
  • Employee referral program
