Geo Mapping information

What is geo mapping?

Geo mapping, also known as geographic mapping, is the process of visually representing spatial data on a map. It involves collecting, analyzing, and displaying geographic information to help identify patterns, relationships, and trends related to specific locations on the earth. Geo mapping is used in various fields such as urban planning, environmental science, logistics, and marketing to make data-driven decisions. The tools and techniques used can range from basic paper maps to advanced Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a geo mapping specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Geo Mapping Specialist, you need a solid background in geography, cartography, spatial analysis, and GIS (Geographic Information Systems), often supported by a relevant degree. Proficiency with GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, and remote sensing tools, as well as certifications like GISP, are commonly required. Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and strong communication skills help professionals interpret data accurately and convey findings to stakeholders. These skills ensure the creation of precise maps and spatial data that support critical decision-making in fields like urban planning, environmental management, and navigation.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in geo mapping roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in geo mapping often encounter challenges such as managing and integrating large sets of spatial data from various sources, ensuring data accuracy, and keeping up with rapid technological advancements in GIS tools. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, like surveyors and data analysts, is essential to maintain data integrity and project timelines. Staying current through ongoing training and leveraging quality control protocols can help address these issues and ensure successful project delivery.

GIS Technicians handle data analysis, software management, and technical GIS tasks. While both roles require GIS knowledge and certifications, Geo Mapping emphasizes field-based mapping, whereas GIS Technicians work primarily in office settings analyzing spatial data.

Is geo mapping a good career?

Geo mapping is a viable career that involves creating geographic representations using GIS software and spatial analysis skills. It is used in industries such as urban planning, environmental management, and transportation, often requiring technical knowledge and certifications. Job prospects depend on industry demand and proficiency with mapping tools like ArcGIS or QGIS.

About Us

Fivetran and dbt Labs are bringing together two industry-leading companies with a shared mission: helping organizations unlock the full value of their data.
Together, we're delivering the data infrastructure layer that helps organizations move, transform, and trust their data - from the moment data moves, through every transformation, to the context teams and AI systems rely on.

Together, we support thousands of organizations as they build a trusted foundation for analytics, AI, and better business decisions.

During this transition period, you may see references to both Fivetran and dbt Labs throughout our recruiting process as we integrate our teams, systems, and career sites.

About the Role

We're looking for a strategic, results-oriented organic growth lead to drive our acquisition strategy across traditional search engines and emerging AI/LLM platforms. You'll directly shape the vision, strategy, and operating model responsible for driving measurable growth in organic visibility, discoverability, and pipeline through content creation across owned and earned channels. You'll partner closely with creative, product marketing, web, PR, and brand teams to identify content gaps and build plans, establish investment priorities, and ensure we're positioned to win across an increasingly complex discovery ecosystem.

Success in this role requires balancing long-term strategic thinking with a willingness to dive deep into execution. You'll establish our long-term strategy and priorities while remaining closely connected to the work - creating and reviewing content, measuring and evaluating performance, and continuously refining how we show up across owned and earned channels.

What You'll Do

  • Own our content-led GEO/SEO strategy, defining the prompts, topics, formats, and ecosystems that drive measurable growth in traffic, visibility, and pipeline
  • Identify and prioritize high-impact content opportunities across product areas, influencing cross-functional teams to bring that content to life
  • Map and optimize our presence across the full ecosystem of LLM-ingested content, including YouTube, Reddit, and review sites, to improve AI-driven discoverability
  • Design and execute a comprehensive off-page strategy, including link acquisition, digital PR, and authority-building initiatives
  • Own technical execution - site architecture, crawlability, structured data, and page performance - partnering with web development teams to ensure content is effectively surfaced, indexed, and performant
  • Build net new and repurposed content workflows, leveraging AI tools to accelerate scale and time to production
  • Lead the relationship with our agency, setting the brief, holding the work to a high bar, and course-correcting as the search landscape shifts.
  • Evaluate emerging trends in search, AI, content consumption, and digital discovery, translating market shifts into strategic opportunities
  • Track and report on organic performance (both SEO and GEO), translating traffic, visibility, and pipeline data into a clear narrative for leadership

Skills We Are Looking For

  • A proven track record of growing qualified organic traffic and visibility through content strategy and creation
  • A demonstrated point of view on modern organic growth, with a proven ability to anticipate and capitalize on shifts in search, AI/LLM, and digital discovery
  • Experience creating technical content across multiple platforms and channels (YouTube, social, review sites, etc)
  • Strong technical GEO/SEO fundamentals: site architecture, crawlability and indexation (including access for AI crawlers), structured data and schema markup, Core Web Vitals, and content formatting
  • Analytical mindset and comfortable pulling reports, diagnosing performance shifts, and quantifying opportunities
  • Hands-on experience using GEO/SEO tools such as Conductor and Profound to drive strategy.
  • Hands-on experience managing an agency relationship

Technologies You Will Use

  • Profound and/or Conductor
  • Semrush
  • Google Search Console
  • Google Analytics (GA4)
  • Screaming Frog
  • Amplitude
  • Looker
