Responsibilities

It takes someone who is mature, flexible, and cooperative to:

  • Monitor daily usage of industrial washers, dryers, and other equipment.
  • Adjust valves, switches, and levers to start, operate, and stop the machinery, and control the temperature of the water.
  • Regularly inspect laundry equipment and report problems to the property authority.
  • Repair and maintain laundry equipment.
  • Re-issue and exchange worn-out clothing.
  • Make periodic rounds through the laundry to maintain security measures (including random searches).
  • Notify the Control Center of sick-outs during counts.
  • Keep an inventory of all clothing in the building (clothes that need to be repaired, blankets, and uniforms).
  • Ensure that the proper amount of cleaned clothing is returned to the delivering officer.
  • Keep the laundry building and outside area clean and secure (report missing tools to the supervisor immediately).
  • Control, issue, and account for all chemicals and hazardous materials used in the laundry operation.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent certification required.
  • Working knowledge of business English, good grammar and spelling skills, and ability to develop correspondence, reports and operational directives required. Must have a proven history of exercising discretion and retaining confidentiality.
  • Solid organizational and communication skills. Ability to understand and carry out moderately complex oral and written instructions; to make minor decisions in accordance with rules and regulations as they apply to work problems; to maintain company records; and to meet and deal effectively with the public and inmates required.

This role involves lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 40 lbs., and work with machinery. You will also:

  • Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull up to 60 lbs. (sometimes more), bend, stoop, reach above shoulder level, climb, walk, and stand.
  • Occasionally drive automatic equipment vehicles and work in extreme temperatures.
