Responsibilities
The successful candidate must be capable of and committed to teaching a variety of Animal Science courses. However, teaching responsibilities will focus on animal genetics and/or breeding, animal biotechnology, animal anatomy, beef cattle management/production, small ruminant production, and general animal science courses. The successful applicant will be expected to develop new courses and teach using both traditional and online formats; Supervise undergraduate projects, advising undergraduate and graduate students, recruiting new students, and expanding internship opportunities; Support student-led activities (e.g., Animal Science Club) and participate in teaching and learning enrichment seminars and professional development programs; and participate in departmental, college, and university committees, as well as other duties assigned by the Program Leader.
The selected individual will also be expected to develop a relevant and impactful research program in animal genetics/breeding or closely related areas; and make significant contributions to existing clientele, Animal Science at FAMU, and to stakeholders throughout the region.
Minimum Qualifications
Earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Animal Science or a closely related field prior to the start date. A DVM/Ph.D. combination will receive preference.
Recommended Competencies
Expertise in animal genetics and/or breeding, biotechnology;
Application of conventional and molecular techniques in animal genetics;
Broad experience in animal agriculture;
Successful experience teaching students from multicultural backgrounds; and,
Demonstrated success working with multidisciplinary teams and in diverse environments.
Preferred Qualifications
Individuals capable of participating in multidisciplinary and/or multi-institutional research collaborations will be highly ranked in the selection process.
Candidates with expertise in large cattle, goats, and sheep will receive preference. Candidates with expertise in genetics/breeding of small animals (swine, poultry) will also be considered.

This is a Faculty position.
Conditions of Employment

Florida A&M University owns a 260-acre Teaching and Research Farm located approximately twenty-seven miles north of the main campus. The farm maintains established herds of cattle, pigs, and goats, as well as horses and poultry, which are used in the teaching program. An accredited Veterinary Technology Program also operates at this facility, staffed by veterinarians and certified veterinary technicians. The farm offers extensive potential for research projects, supported by an on-site veterinary team well-versed in animal care and a cooperative Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).
This position carries a 60% teaching and 40% research/extension appointment.
