Job description

GENESIS HEALTHCARE SYSTEM

Genesis Behavioral Health offers:
• Crisis Prevention Intervention/ Aggression Management System training.
• Workplace safety with onsite Public Safety along with our Real Time Locating System (RTLS).
• Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team.
• Comprehensive department orientation.
• Annual competencies to reinforce skill set.
• Clinical Advancement Program to support professional development
• Sign on bonus opportunities for positions 24 hours a week or more

All Shifts available:
• Day shift
• Evening shift
• Night shift
• Varied PRN shift

All schedules available:
• Full time - 72 hours to 60 hours every two weeks
• Part time - 48 hours to 32 hours every two weeks
• PRN - On-call. *Must work at least 96 hours every six months.

Overview of the position:
Plans, provides and/or supervises the nursing care of patients in an efficient and caring manner. Coordinates care planning with other caregivers and with other areas, adheres to universal precautions, and is compliant with infection control policies. Works independently with minimal supervision.
Chemical Dependency Counselor (CDC) addendum: Assists the medical director with patient rounds. Provides assessment and therapeutic counseling to chemically dependent clients using a bio-psychosocial approach in an outpatient setting. Educates clients and families regarding the disease process for chemical dependency. Conducts individual and group therapy and leads group discussion. Responsible for the care planning of a caseload of clients with chemical dependency issues. Assesses patient needs and updates medical director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1. Appropriately assumes responsibility for group of patients assigned.
2. Demonstrates appropriate administration of medication.
3. Provides/facilitates patient/family education.
4. Involves the patient and family/significant other in any decision making related to the patient's plan of care.
5. Recognizes and reports signs of abuse or domestic violence.
6. Displays ability and uses critical thinking skills to set priorities for patient care, self, and others.
7. Proficient in vital sign assessment, including pain
8. Demonstrates competence in age specific patient care as documented on the attached checklist.
9. Delegates appropriate tasks based on acuity of patient and skill level of resource staff.
10. If working as an RN/Chemical Dependency Counselor see RN/Chemical Dependency Counselor Addendum for additional duties and qualifications.
CDC addendum (additional duties):
1. Completes billing charges/sheets daily
2. Utilizes historic and current data in assessing patient needs.
3. Utilizes effecting interviewing skills and supportive counseling skills.
4. Provides individual and group, crisis intervention, and family clinical interventions with chemically dependent clients.
5. Acts as client advocate, mediator, and facilitator.
6. Demonstrates competence in age specific patient care.
7. Assists with orientation of new staff and/or students
8. Provides community services including development of programs
9. Cross-trains as appropriate to credentials, licensure and scope of practice and department need.
10. Develops care plans based on assessment
11. Conducts bio-psych social assessments, including nursing assessments
12. Documents patient's progress, care plans, assessments, etc. in the Electronic Medical Record
13. Proficient in vital sign assessment and phlebotomy.
14. Carries out physician orders
15. Calls in medication orders
16. Performs other functions within RN scope of practice, as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Current Ohio RN License
2. ADN or BSN
3. CPR certification or obtain within 30 days of employment.
4. Phlebotomy classes within 90 days of employment departmental provided training.
5. Ability to read, write and explain or describe moderately complex information to other hospital staff.
6. Attention to detail.
7. Ability to accurately take and record measurements or readings
8. Ability to provide patient care in a warm and friendly manner
9. Demonstrates competence in age-specific patient care as documented by the attached checklist.
10. Aggression Management System within six months of employment.
CDC addendum (additional qualifications):
1. Must be licensed by the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board with a minimum of a Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant certification within 6 months of employment.
2. Skills to provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate for the patient age.
3. Knowledge of chemical dependency processes and treatment modalities.
4. Demonstrated skills appropriate for ASAM levels of care, SASSI, CIWA, COWS and DSM V usage.
5. Demonstrated knowledge base of chemical dependency/addiction to educate clients, families and community.
6. Must have excellent written and verbal skills to facilitate working with various multidisciplinary team members and community agencies.
7. AMS certification within 30 days of employment.

• Demonstrates safe Materials Handling (i.e. appropriate use and disposal of chemicals, infectious wastes, etc.)
• Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of Infectious Disease precautions and use of proper protective equipment
• Demonstrates Slips/Trips and Falls Awareness.
• Actively contributes to maintaining a safe, clean and quiet environment.
