As of Jun 15, 2026, the average hourly pay for generative ai chemistry in the United States is $22.26, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $18.27 and $24.52 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is Generative AI in Chemistry?

Generative AI in chemistry refers to the use of artificial intelligence models, particularly generative models like deep learning neural networks, to design new molecules, predict chemical properties, and accelerate drug discovery. These AI systems can analyze vast chemical datasets to propose novel compounds with desired characteristics, reducing the time and cost of traditional experimental methods. By leveraging machine learning, generative AI helps chemists explore chemical space more efficiently and discover innovative solutions in pharmaceuticals, materials science, and other chemistry fields.

What is the highest paid chemistry job?

In the field of generative AI chemistry, senior roles such as Lead Computational Chemist or AI Research Scientist typically have the highest salaries, often exceeding $150,000 annually. These positions require advanced expertise in machine learning, chemistry, and programming, and may involve working in research labs or tech companies focused on drug discovery or materials science.

What are common challenges faced by professionals working in Generative AI Chemistry roles?

Professionals in Generative AI Chemistry often encounter challenges such as integrating domain-specific chemical knowledge with advanced AI techniques, ensuring the quality and interpretability of generated molecular structures, and validating AI-generated compounds against real-world experimental data. Collaboration with chemists, data scientists, and computational researchers is vital to bridge gaps between theoretical models and practical applications. Staying updated with rapidly evolving AI methodologies and chemical informatics tools is also essential for success in this interdisciplinary field.

Is AI taking over chemistry jobs?

Generative AI in chemistry is primarily used to assist with tasks such as molecule design, data analysis, and simulation, rather than replacing chemists. While AI tools can automate repetitive tasks and improve efficiency, human expertise remains essential for interpretation, decision-making, and experimental validation in chemistry roles.

Which 3 jobs will survive AI?

Generative AI roles such as AI chemists, data scientists, and machine learning engineers are expected to persist as they require specialized expertise in developing and managing AI models. These jobs involve complex problem-solving, creativity, and domain-specific knowledge that are difficult to fully automate. Continuous learning and proficiency with AI tools and programming languages like Python are essential for these roles.

What jobs can you get with a generative AI certification?

A generative AI certification can qualify you for roles such as AI researcher, machine learning engineer, data scientist, or AI developer, often requiring skills in programming, deep learning, and neural networks. These positions are typically found in technology companies, research labs, or industries applying AI for automation and innovation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Generative AI Chemistry Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Generative AI Chemistry Specialist, you need a strong background in computational chemistry, machine learning, and data analysis, typically supported by an advanced degree in chemistry, computer science, or related fields. Experience with programming languages (such as Python), deep learning frameworks (like TensorFlow or PyTorch), and cheminformatics tools (such as RDKit) is essential. Excellent problem-solving abilities, strong collaboration skills, and clear scientific communication are critical soft skills for success in this interdisciplinary field. These competencies enable the effective design and implementation of AI-driven solutions for chemical discovery, accelerating research and innovation.

What is the difference between Generative Ai Chemistry vs Data Scientist?

AspectGenerative Ai ChemistryData Scientist
Required CredentialsAdvanced degrees in Chemistry, AI, or related fieldsDegree in Data Science, Statistics, or Computer Science
Work EnvironmentResearch labs, pharmaceutical companies, AI startupsTech firms, finance, healthcare, consulting
Industry UsageDrug discovery, chemical modeling, AI-driven chemistry researchData analysis, predictive modeling, business insights

Generative Ai Chemistry focuses on applying AI techniques to chemical research and drug development, often requiring chemistry and AI expertise. Data Scientists analyze data across various industries, including tech and finance, to extract insights. While both roles involve AI and data skills, Generative Ai Chemistry is specialized in chemical applications, whereas Data Scientists have broader industry applications.

Job description

Thank you for your interest in Uncountable Engineering!
Description
Uncountable is seeking driven software engineers with a focus on Generative AI deployment in software.
Uncountable's software platform is used by scientists in leading scientific R&D organizations to structure and analyze experimental data. Uncountable's users are solving critical problems in materials science, chemistry, biotech, and other scientific fields, and our goal is to help them solve those problems faster.
Your role will be to bring the full power of ongoing advances in LLMs to bear on real-world problems and friction faced by scientists every day. You'll be building AI-powered search and visualization tools, next-generation UX that use multimodal LLMs as the UI, intelligent research assistants, and more. This is a unique opportunity to join the front-line effort to accelerate scientific progress using LLMs and generative AI.
Primary Responsibility
You will be responsible for:
- Building specific LLM powered features end-to-end, including both LLM-specific tasks (prompting, optimizing latency, tuning/testing behavior) and traditional fullstack development tasks (coding frontends/backends, designing APIs and databases)
- Developing a great in-house LLM stack to serve the evolving needs of our product (API integration, testing, observability, caching, infrastructure for fine-tuning and inference, etc)
Uncountable has a strong culture of continuous deployment and fast iteration cycles. You'll expect to ship your work early and often to Uncountable's users and iterate based on their feedback.
Many of the features you build will represent new and unprecedented ways to use software, so you'll wear various hats as a designer, researcher, engineer, product manager, and whatever else is needed to create an amazing product. This is a great role for someone who is looking to grow their skills and perspective quickly, or who wants to found their own company in the future.
