They perform both administrative and clinical tasks, such as preparing patients for surgery, assisting with minor procedures, managing medical records, and ensuring surgical instruments are sterilized and ready. Their role is essential for maintaining efficient workflow and patient safety before, during, and after surgical procedures. Additionally, they often communicate with patients about pre- and post-operative care instructions.

What does a general surgery medical assistant do?

A typical day for a General Surgery Medical Assistant involves preparing examination rooms, assisting with minor surgical procedures, taking patient histories and vital signs, and ensuring instruments are sterilized and ready for use. They work closely with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care before, during, and after surgical visits. Communication and organizational skills are key, as the role often requires juggling multiple tasks and responding quickly to the needs of both the surgical team and patients.
