Responsibilities of a General Manager entail:

  • Build and maintain business relationships with vendors, customers, manufacturers, and personnel
  • Assess present and future needs, trends, problems, and profit opportunities
  • Create and implement a dealership-wide operation plan including budgets, sales, and business plan components
  • Develop, train, and coach reporting managers on tasks such as selling, customer relations, employee relations, policies and procedures
  • Manage and lead truck sales efforts and associated personnel
  • Monitor data, numbers, sales, customer pricing, and quotas within the dealership
  • Prospect and identify potential customers
  • Develop, implement, and maintain proper processes in conjunction with the Company and manufacturers
  • Ensure dealership work is performed with efficiency, accuracy, high quality, and following all dealership standards
  • Coordinate with Marketing to develop merchandising strategies and advertising programs.
  • Promote safe work habits and ensure that safety rules are followed
  • Advise direct reports on techniques and approaches through coaching, troubleshooting, or teaching practices
  • Take corrective action, when necessary, by issuing credits, speaking with customers, and working with other departments to ensure alternative methods are available for the customers
  • Maintain expenses, assets, and materials and take action as necessary
  • Appraise employee performance through coaching's, reviews, and evaluations as appropriate
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to interview, screen, and hire employees
