Job description

Position Overview: The Manager in Training role allows candidates who demonstrate potential to become a store manager the chance to work with seasoned managers to prepare for future advancement. The Manager in Training will learn all aspects of the Store Manager position. Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age in order to manage locations that sale alcohol, tobacco and lottery. Working hours and store locations may vary during this position. Some travel is required.

Primary Responsibilities:
1.ย ย  ย Learn to recruit, provide training for, and manage all employees.
2.ย ย  ย Represent Little General in a professional manner with all employees, customers, and vendors.
3.ย ย  ย Learn and understand Little General policies and procedures as defined in the Managerโ€™s Manual.
4.ย ย  ย Learn to communicate, enforce and follow all handbook and company policies.
5.ย ย  ย Learn scheduling by budget in accordance with federal wage and hour regulations.
6.ย ย  ย Learn to provide employee coaching and document progressive discipline when required.
7.ย ย  ย Ensure that all store premises and equipment are clean, safe, secure, and properly maintained.
8.ย ย  ย Promote enrollment and regular participation in all Loyalty Programs. (LG Rewards, BP, etc.)
9.ย ย  ย Promote store participation in company sponsored Charity Events.
10.ย ย  ย Learn to inventory, promote, display, and price the appropriate variety of products and services to produce projected sales and profits.
11.ย ย  ย Learn to safeguard and manage all store funds, merchandise, and gasoline inventory.
12.ย ย  ย Learn to work in cooperation with Food Service Manager to share building maintenance.
13.ย ย  ย Learn way to reduce operating costs by monitoring and managing all controllable expenses.
14.ย ย  ย Learn to complete and transmit all required reports and documentation in a timely manner.
15.ย ย  ย Report any questions or problems to Retail Supervisor.
16.ย ย  ย Other duties as assigned for learning.

Minimum Education:

High School diploma or GED preferred. Basic computer skills required. Must be able to read, write, and speak in English.


Physical Demands:
โ€ขย ย  ย Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry boxes and/or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds;
โ€ขย ย  ย Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time (90%), Sitting (10%);
โ€ขย ย  ย Ability to climb, balance, reach, grab, stoop, crawl, bend, and crouch for extended periods;
โ€ขย ย  ย Ability to use close, distant, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and visual focus;
โ€ขย ย  ย Ability to smell and identify odors;
โ€ขย ย  ย Ability to clearly hear and interpret voice commands and telephone communications.
