As an Electrical Engineer, you are responsible for designing, modifying, and troubleshooting electrical or electronic engineering assemblies, layouts, schematics, and drawings to advance the equipment that supports our technology. Using your technical experience and critical thinking skills, you will perform engineering analysis, generate test reports, develop innovative solutions, and create documentation for product releases. You will also coordinate the procurement and assembly of components, identify sources of critical parts, and resolve technical issues to ensure peak performance.

Our team of product development engineers focuses on new product development, but we don't just design it and run away. We typically take the development from cradle to grave (systems architecture, systems engineering, design, documentation, build, test, & release). We work on a variety of projects within Applied Materials and with a variety of groups (ion implant, CVD, automation, common systems, etc.).

We are looking for someone with a broad experience base who is willing to tackle difficult problems, learn new technologies and methods, and leverage existing technologies and methods

We are looking for someone with expertise in electrical engineering, software, and motion controls.We do a variety of product development efforts so a broad range of skills and a willingness to learn new skills is important to be successful in this job.

An ideal candidate would possess the following skills.A desirable candidate would possess many (but not all) of these skills and be willing to learn more over time.

General Electrical Skills

  • General power (AC & DC) and signal distribution design
  • Cabling design, schematic creation, sensor selection / integration
  • Basic knowledge of EMI / EMC mitigation designs
  • Semi and safety requirements for electrical designs

Controls Skills

  • Motor and encoder sizing and selection
  • Motor/drive tuning
  • Design of real time controls algorithms
  • Create mathematical models of mechanical (or general) systems for the control model
  • Develop higher level code to tie everything together (for test stands mostly...not for production level code...that is handled by a dedicated software group)
  • Proficiency, knowledge, or willingness to become proficient in control system techniques, modelling, and simulation
  • Proficiency, knowledge, or willingness to become proficient in controls / software related tools (MATLAB, Python, etc.)
  • Proficiency, knowledge, or willingness to become proficient in more general programming languages (C, C++, etc.)
  • Proficiency, knowledge, or willingness to become proficient in controls hardware / systems (Delta Tau is frequently used, our own internal controls system (CGMA & CGA) is another frequently used system

  • Collaborates well in a cross functional team (mechanical, electrical, software, physics, etc.)
  • Passion for hands on development (we don't just sit at our CAD stations, we turn wrenches, build test stands, test out our designs/code/controls, etc.)

  • Conduct experiments / testing to confirm performance of our designs / controls methods.
  • Ability to lead/manage other engineers in electrical engineering efforts for various product development efforts (small or large efforts and teams).

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
