Apprentices focus on learning, whereas Supervisors handle project execution and coordination.

What are the typical responsibilities of a general contractor apprentice?

As a General Contractor Apprentice, your daily tasks often include assisting with site preparation, organizing materials, and supporting skilled tradespeople such as carpenters or electricians. You'll also help maintain safety standards, track project progress, and communicate updates to supervisors or team leads. This hands-on role offers valuable exposure to all phases of construction and provides a strong foundation for advancing toward a licensed general contractor position.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a general contractor apprentice?

To thrive as a General Contractor Apprentice, you need a basic understanding of construction principles, safety protocols, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with hand and power tools, construction management software, and OSHA safety certification is typically required. Strong communication, reliability, and a willingness to learn are critical soft skills that set apprentices apart. These skills and qualifications ensure safe, efficient work and provide a solid foundation for growth in the construction industry.

How much do apprentice general contractors make?

Apprentice general contractors typically earn between $15 and $25 per hour, depending on experience, location, and the complexity of projects. As they gain skills and certifications, their wages tend to increase, and they may progress to higher-paying roles in construction management.

  • Schedule: Monday - Friday.

  • Project Scope: Commercial Construction, Real Estate Development, and Tenant Improvement.

  • Mandatory Licenses & Certifications: None Required.

The Opportunity: You will serve as a foundational leader for a growing family-oriented company, taking ownership of the sales and client relations pipeline. This role offers the unique chance to enter at the ground level and directly influence the long-term trajectory of our commercial construction division. You will have the autonomy to build a 3-5 year relationship pipeline while receiving the support of a team that values personal growth and professional integrity.

How You Will Make an Impact:

  • Identify and cultivate high-value relationships with local developers, retail tenant reps, and franchise groups to secure early-stage project involvement.

  • Navigate complex municipal procurement processes and evaluate RFQs to position the company as a preferred general contractor.

  • Coordinate with the preconstruction team to bridge the gap between initial client interest and successful project handoff.

  • Drive the expansion of negotiated work by demonstrating a deep understanding of developer pro formas and project timing.

  • Execute strategic outreach to municipal decision-makers to enhance company visibility and bonding opportunities.

  • Promote the company’s reputation for integrity by acting as the primary face of our brand in the regional commercial market.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in commercial construction business development or real estate development.

  • Proven track record of building long-term relationship pipelines that result in consistent project awards.

  • In-depth knowledge of entitlements, permitting, and the public procurement process.

  • Existing network of contacts within regional developer circles and franchise rollout groups.

  • Strong ability to interpret developer financial needs and align construction services with their deal timing.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience:

  • Previous experience as a Project Executive or Preconstruction Leader transitioning into a business development role.

  • Demonstrated success in managing tenant representative brokerage relationships with a construction crossover.

  • Experience navigating diversity goals and safety record requirements for municipal projects.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive bi-weekly pay cycle with performance-based bonuses.

  • Comprehensive medical insurance coverage for you and your family.

  • Generous paid time off, including all major holidays, vacation, and sick leave.

  • Access to professional apprenticeship and mentorship training programs to fuel your career growth.

  • Ground-floor opportunity in a supportive, family-owned environment with significant upward mobility.
