Job description

Education/Certification:

Required: 

  • Able to do simple mathematics; Food Manager's Certificate
  • Must possess a valid Texas Class C driver's license and be insurable by the District

Preferred: 

  • High school graduate or GED

Technology Proficiency Level 1 - Basic (use of):

  • Computer operations
  • Word processing
  • Data entry
  • Data archiving
  • E-mail
  • Job-related student and/or financial management system
  • CCISD Acceptable Use Policy and Technology Ethnics/Etiquette

Experience:

Required:

  • Knowledge of cooking techniques, procedures and use and care of kitchen equipment and utensils

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of quantity food preparation and service; One year as a cafeteria helper in the CCISD Food Services Department

Personal Required:

  • Able to communicate with students, teachers, and food service personnel
  • Experience working with customer service
  • Able to supervise cafeteria employees
  • Able to organize work to meet meal service deadlines
  • Knowledge of how food should look and taste
  • Able to communicate with students, principals, teachers, parents, and food service personnel
  • Knowledge of how to use a convection and/or conventional oven, scales, mixers, food chopper, meat slicer, range, steamtable, dish machine, fryer, steam jacketed kettle, steamer, computer, cash register, and calculator

Function

Under the supervision of the Training Manager for Food Services, work as a manager trainee in the training school performing all assigned functions in food preparation, service and clean up. Learn and perform all of the cafeteria manager's duties and substitute as a cafeteria manager in schools where the manager is absent.

Responsibilities:

  • Work as a manager trainee in the training school, rotating through all kitchen duties.
  • Learn and perform all of the cafeteria manager's duties under the supervision of the training manager.
  • Substitute as a cafeteria manager in the event the manager is absent.
  • Learn to maintain all records as required by CCISD and the Texas Department of Agriculture.
  • Responsible for following standardized recipes.
  • Prepare employee work schedule.
  • Prepare serving counter set up.
  • Set up serving counter according to steamtable diagram.
  • Serve food using effective time and motion techniques.
  • Work in dish room scraping, rinsing, racking, and washing trays and silverware.
  • Wash and sanitize pots and pans.
  • Perform assigned cleanup of kitchen, dish room, and dining room, including equipment and floors.
  • Cashier and/or help replenish food daily during serving periods. Supervise other cashiers.
  • Prepare all daily reports, records, and deposits.
  • Ensure that all money collected is properly deposited on a daily basis.
  • Ensure all food received is properly accounted for as sold, leftover, or scrapped.
  • Responsible for completing the monthly physical inventory.
  • Responsible for the final daily cleaning of kitchen, dish room and dining room.
  • Responsible for the proper closing and securing of the cafeteria at the end of the day.
  • Lift or carry; 1 to 40 lbs. frequently, 41 to 60 lbs. occasionally with assistance and proper lifting techniques.
  • Bend, stoop and reach above shoulder level occasionally. Work with machinery frequently.
  • Climb ladders, stairs, and ramps occasionally.
  • Walk and stand frequently, sit occasionally.
  • Drive frequently.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises kitchen helpers and aides when serving as a substitute manager.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Mental/Physical Demands and Environmental Factors:
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing); interpret data. Challenging situations; Ability to maintain emotional control under stress and meet established deadlines. Occasional prolonged or irregular hours.
