Job description

The Reading Chronicle is looking for a talented news reporter to join our busy newsroom and help drive one of the fastestgrowing local news websites in the UK. 
You'll be breaking big stories, holding power to account and telling the human stories that matter to readers across Reading and the wider Berkshire area.
  • Generating original story ideas and building contacts in the community.
  • Reacting fast to breaking news and publishing coverage online in real time.
  • Attending court and council meetings, and producing clear, compelling reports.
  • Working with editors to develop content that grows page views and subscriptions.
We're looking for a reporter who:
  • Has a sharp news sense and a passion for local journalism.
  • Can turn around clean, accurate copy to deadline.
  • Is confident covering everything from breaking news and crime to politics, community campaigns and human interest.
  • Understands how to write engaging digital stories, headlines and social posts that get people talking.
  • Is comfortable using social media, live blogs and video to reach and grow audiences.
Previous experience in a newsroom, NCTJ or equivalent training is preferred, but we'll consider strong candidates from other journalism or content backgrounds who have a good attitude.
