In this critical role, you will lead the teardown, inspection, and rebuilding of industrial gearboxes within the Refurbish Department, while also providing expert field service at customer sites. We are looking for a precision craftsman who can read complex drawings, utilize high-level measuring tools, and represent the company professionally both in-house and in the field.

Gearbox Mechanic Primary Responsibilities include:
Your main responsibility is the complete mechanical diagnostic evaluation and refurbishment of industrial gear units, ensuring all work meets rigorous technical and blueprint specifications.

  • Refurbishment & Assembly: Rebuild, align, and refurbish heavy industrial gearboxes and components according to engineering drawings and blueprints.
  • Teardown & Diagnostics: Assist with the complete disassembly and inspection of units; meticulously determine all damage and establish which internal components must be replaced.
  • Field Service Excellence: Perform and supervise on-site field service work as required, communicating in a highly professional manner directly with clients.
  • Precision Technical Tasks: Analyze vibration and gear failures; assist with the specialized painting of gear units and components prior to delivery.
  • Operations Coordination: Assist the Workshop Manager with job scheduling, shop supply coordination, and the preventative maintenance of shop tools and equipment.
  • Logistics & Shop Support: Safely operate a forklift to assist with shipping, receiving, and moving heavy units; contribute to general shop cleaning to maintain a safe work environment.


Gearbox Mechanic Requirements include:

  • Proven Experience: Minimum of 5 years of heavy industrial mechanical work experience is required.
  • Technical Mastery: Strong foundational understanding of complex bearing and seal installation techniques.
  • Diagnostic Capabilities: Proven ability to analyze vibrations, troubleshoot complex mechanical failures, and diagnose gear damage.
  • Precision Measurement: Proficient in reading technical drawings and utilizing precision measuring equipment (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, etc.).
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods and safely lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Success Traits: Must be a detail-oriented, highly organized self-starter who can work completely independently or collaborate seamlessly as a team player.
  • Professionalism: Maintain an exceptional, professional attitude both in-house and off-site during customer field visits.
