Roles and Responsibilities

GE Vernova Power Conversion & Storage (PCS) is looking for a Technical Support Engineer to join our Level 2 Engineering team. This role is critical to ensuring technical excellence in field operations by providing advanced support to service teams and customers for our portfolio of industrial drives, power converters, and control systems. With the mentoring of experienced Project and/or Development Hardware Engineers, the Technical support Engineer will:

  • Provide Level 2 (L2) technical support for GE Vernova PCS products, including Medium Voltage drives, grid-tied converters, DC systems, and PECe controllers.
  • Assist Field Service Engineers (FSEs) and customers in troubleshooting complex technical issues - both remotely and, when required, on-site.
  • Support commissioning and validation of electrical power conversion systems (FAT/SAT support).
  • Develop and maintain technical instructions, service bulletins, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for escalated issues and feed insights back to engineering and product teams.
  • Collaborate with internal cross-functional teams, including Product Engineering, R&D, Quality, and Field Services.
  • Participate in training efforts, knowledge base development, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain adherence to GE safety, quality, and cybersecurity protocols in all support activities.
  • Simulate to reproduce Power Electronics system behavior in industrial environment such as Marine Propulsion, Oil and Gas, metals rolling mills, and power generation applications for failure investigation.
  • Write project artifacts such as hardware commissioning or maintenance instructions.
  • Support the Drive Commissioning.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Power Electronics, or related discipline with 5 years of experience in electrical engineering.
  • Minimum Master’s degree in electrical engineering with 3 years of experience in electrical engineering.
  • Working with industrial drives, converters, or automation systems.
  • Solid understanding of motor control principles, drive topologies, and AC/DC converter systems.
  • Familiarity with technical documentation, such as electrical schematics and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to support critical issues during off-hours and participate in occasional site visits/travel.
  • Ability and willingness to travel when needed to resolve site issues up to 20% of the time.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without need for sponsorship, now or in the future.
Desired Characteristics
  • Familiar with Matlab/PLECS for Industrial real time systems.
  • Work autonomously, curious with the ability to understand new concepts, coach other engineers, and integrate into a team.
  • Major courses on Power Electronics converters (MMC, multilevel VSI, LCI, DC drives or Cycloconverter), Variable Speed application, STATCOM, or active filtering.
  • Experience with GE Power Conversion platforms (e.g., MV7000, SD7000, PECe, RX3i, LV5+, MV3000, LV7000, LV8000).
  • Familiarity with PLC systems, industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP, EGD, EtherCat).
  • Hands-on experience in drive testing and commissioning.
  • Knowledge of marine, energy, oil & gas or industrial applications and related standards (IEC, ABS, DNV, IEEE).

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $80,000.00 and $120,000.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.
