Job Summary:

As a GE Wind Electrical Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the optimal performance and safety of GE wind turbines. This position involves performing retrofits, repairs, and preventative maintenance tasks while adhering to FairWind's safety protocols. You'll work under the direction of the FairWind team and collaborate with GE's technical support to maintain high standards for turbine reliability and availability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Routine Maintenance & Repairs: Perform regular inspections, corrective repairs, and preventative maintenance on GE wind turbines to ensure maximum efficiency and safety.
  • Troubleshooting & Diagnosis: Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and controller issues using advanced troubleshooting techniques.
  • Component Replacement & Upgrades: Replace faulty components, perform upgrades, and ensure turbine components are functioning at their best.
  • Team Leadership: Lead small troubleshooting teams and collaborate with lead technicians on daily tasks when needed.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and operational defects. Document activities according to company procedures.


Safety & Compliance:

  • Adherence to Protocols: Follow all safety procedures and protocols rigorously, including using proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Environmental & Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, company standards, and safety protocols on all sites.
  • Isolation & Zero Energy Procedures: Safely identify isolation points in electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems and understand the process of proper isolation (Hot-Cold-Hot).


Technical Expertise:

  • GE Platform Fundamentals: Successfully complete GE platform fundamentals, including 1.x, 2.x, PMG, DFIG, Sierra, and Cypress.
  • Electrical & Hydraulic Schematics: Ability to read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics for troubleshooting.
  • Complex Problem-Solving: Collaborate with lead technicians and GE technical support to resolve complex issues related to various turbine systems (e.g., hydraulics, pitch, drivetrain, converter, yaw).


Optional Qualifications:

  • Advanced Training: GE converter training on any platform and ATSS/SCADA
  • Specialized Certifications: Additional certifications and training in wind turbine systems and high-voltage systems including switch gear operations are highly beneficial.


Reporting & Documentation:

  • Accurate Logs: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including LOTO (Lockout/Tagout), PDRs, tailboards and equipment inspections.
  • Performance Reports: Prepare and submit reports on turbine defects, maintenance activities, and safety incidents to both FairWind and client management teams.
  • Clear Communication: Ensure clear and effective communication with site and FairWind management to maintain smooth operations.

Requirements:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training in wind turbine technology or a related field preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum - 1-2 years of experience assisting with or performing troubleshooting and maintenance on GE wind turbines.

Skills:

  • Strong mechanical, hydraulic and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Proficiency in GE wind turbine technology, maintenance procedures, and diagnostic tools.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and record-keeping abilities.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to perform tasks that may involve bending, stooping, reaching, or standing for extended periods.
  • Must be able to safely operate equipment and follow proper lifting techniques.

Certifications:

  • GWO Certs- BST, BTTI, BTTH, BTTE, BTTB, ART, SART
  • GE Wind Turbine Certifications: 1x-ESS, 2x-ESS, DFIG, PMG, Sierra, Cypress, Converter, ATSS, SCADA.
  • High-voltage certification or experience is a plus.
