Who will you be working with?

As a member of Field Services Americas, you will be responsible for helping our customer (CSX) maintain their fleet of GE/Wabtec locomotives through advising, informing, researching, and assisting their mechanical employees. You will be part of a team made up of Wabtec technical and materials experts, all working to ensure our customer's fleet is running at optimal levels.

How will you make a difference?

The Material Management Specialist will ensure processes are identified, developed and executed in a manner that will meet the operational goals.  The candidate must be a self-starter with a proven record of being a change agent since you will be responsible for work that is less defined in scope.  You will need utilize situational leadership abilities and experience to execute business objectives that make a positive impact on our short-term and long-term business goals.  You will assist the Materials Manager on all matters related to the material operation including customer interaction as it relates to LHFM commitments and OTC sales.

What do we want to know about you?

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited College or University (or High School Diploma/GED with a minimum 4 years of experience in a materials management or operations position)

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a materials management, operations, inventory control, or logistics role

  • Strong analytical and influencing skills

  • Proven project management skills with the ability to work across functional boundaries and all levels of management

  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously

  • Ability to effectively communicate with production, engineering, customer service, sales, and external customers

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

What will your typical day look like?

  • Support all aspects of warehousing and material management including fulfillment, transactional quality, inventory accuracy, productivity, and logistics

  • Support and be the key contact for all aspects of warehouse operations, including site services, and implementing necessary upgrades

  • Ensure operational excellence through all phases of material movement and storage

  • Assist in the responsibility for inventory, including preparing for Physical Inventory Audits

  • Support the Materials Manager with all materials fulfillment metrics, including LHFM, In-Transits, Due From, Cycle Counts, & Shopping's.

  • Meet customer satisfaction rating through advanced planning and create ability to expedite shipments as required to meet deadlines

  • Lead efforts to update and streamline stand work practices

  • Manage expediting of shipments and delivery of vendor repair material in order to meet service center schedules

  • Maintain the highest level of integrity and ethics in all dealings with internal customers and outside suppliers

  • Travel required up to 25% of the time

  • Must be willing to work flex schedule, weekends, off-shifts, holidays, and OT

  • Manage weekly schedule of Material Associates

  • Manage cross training for Material's team

  • Ensure the onboarding of new employees and support training

  • Responsible for all site combo inventory

  • Interlaces with Combo Leader to determine weekly required needs.

  • Set up shipping loads for allocated combos from day to day by site and need.

  • Assists transportation leader to ensure all combo and radiator loads are combined together and roundtripped with dirty/clean loads.

  • Ensure other assets (HVACs) are combined w/ combo loads during spikes in usage to maximize available trucking assets.       

  • Reconcile total DUX w/ open POs for each/all LR items.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Standing for long periods of time

  • Operating pallet jacks, forklifts, and other warehouse machinery

  • Lifting and placing items of various sizes and weights (up to the restricted max weight) on/off shelves

  • Wearing required personal protective equipment, including but not limited to hard hat, ear protection, eye protection, and proper feet protection.

  • Walking throughout the day

  • Walking up and down stairs

  • Climbing on/off of locomotives

  • Observing small writing and labels

  • Wearing all required personal protective gear (hardhat, steel toe boots, ear plugs, eye protection) throughout the day

  • Speaking and hearing

  • Typing and operating a computer

  • Working overnight shifts and multiple days in a row, as required
