The Aerospace Reliability Engineer is responsible for leading RM&T activities for Dowty Propellers US (Sterling MRO and Field Services) across the product lifecycle and interfacing with the UK Engineering team to drive closure of significant technical issues. This role owns recurring and non-recurring engineering activities related to RM&T, configuration and change management support, system safety interfaces, mishap investigation support, and Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages planning. The RM&T Engineering Leader problem solves utilizing FLIGHT DECK principles, driving closure of significant technical issues, concessions, and safety investigations across the product lifecycle. This role requires strong engineering judgment, effective cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to influence decisions across engineering, programs, services, and quality.Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead RM&T engineering for Dowty US, ensuring requirements are defined, analyzed, verified, and flowed into design, stress, and airworthiness processes.
  • Act as the subject matter expertand best-practice resource for Dowty US, providing technical guidance on RM&T process
  • Own recurring engineering and technical servicesin the RM&T domain, including investigation and resolution of in-service issues, task reporting, discrepancy notifications, and implementation of reliability and maintainability improvement actions.
  • Lead non-recurring engineering activities for product changes, upgrades, and corrective actions, ensuring that impacts and risks are fully assessed and managed.
  • Support system safety management (SMS), providing Engineering inputs to system safety assessments, hazard analyses, and the Propulsion Structural Integrity Program.
  • Lead or support mishap and incident response, including mishap notification, data capture and availability, teardowns, root cause analysis, and Safety Investigation Board (SIB) support, driving effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Drive Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS) planningfrom an RM&T perspective, assessing reliability and maintainability implications of obsolescence and supporting definition of technically sound, cost-effective solutions.
  • Lead or contribute to cross-functional projects and initiatives, driving improvements in safety, quality, delivery, and cost through RM&T-informed decisions.
  • Collaborate closely with design engineering, systems engineering, manufacturing, quality, programs, and servicesto ensure RM&T considerations are integrated into product architectures, design reviews, test programs, and support strategies.
  • Maintain awareness of latest technical developments, industry standards, and competitor practicesin RM&T, and contribute to internal strategy, standards, and policy development within Dowty Propellers.
  • Act as a primary technical interface to key customers, airworthiness authorities, and suppliers for assigned programs.

Minimum Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree accredited college or university (or a high school diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of experience in Aerospace experience) + Minimum of 3 years of Aerospace experience

Preferred Experience:

  • Significant experience in Aerospace, propulsion, or complex mechanical systems engineering.
  • Demonstrated background in one or more of reliability, maintainability, testability, system safety, or configuration/change management.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency with RM&T tools and methods (e.g., FMEA/FMECA, reliability prediction, FRACAS, maintainability analysis, testability planning).
  • Familiarity with airworthiness, safety, and configuration management processes in aviation or defense environments.

Leadership and Management:

  • Experience leading engineering teams or technical projects, setting priorities, and delivering on commitments.

Analytical and Decision-making skills:

  • Strong problem-solving skills and sound engineering judgment, with experience using technical data and fleet performance information to support recommendations.
  • Ability to take a new perspective on existing problems and propose innovative, practical solutions.

Communication and Influence:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to explain complex RM&T and safety topics to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to build consensus and influence cross-functional stakeholders
