Job description

Overview

We're hiring CNC Machinists for our aerospace and defense machine shop.

Our parts fly on F-16s, orbit on the International Space Station, and spin in nuclear centrifuges. We run low-volume, short-run work in one of the only true aerospace precision shops in the Knoxville area.

You'll take parts from setup through final inspection on equipment ranging from a large 5-axis gantry mill and multiple large horizontal boring mills to VTLs and a full mix of 3-axis and manual machines.

Compensation

  • $27 – $33 / hr

Hiring on 1st and 2nd Shift

  • 1st Shift: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, Monday – Friday
  • 2nd Shift: 5:30 PM – 3:30 AM, Monday – Thursday (optional)

What You'll Run

  • Classic 3-axis CNC mills and lathes
  • Manual mills, lathes, and saws

  • Exotic materials for flight-critical applications

Responsibilities

  • Setups: Perform complete setups, touch-offs, and tool offsets on short-run parts.
  • G-Code Edits: Modify programs at the controller to troubleshoot and hold accuracy.
  • Close-Tolerance Machining: Cut complex geometries in exotic materials for flight-critical parts.
  • Manual Machining: Run manual mills, lathes, and saws for secondary operations.
  • Blueprints & GD&T: Interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T callouts.
  • Program Verification: Prove out MasterCam programs with engineering to improve efficiency.
  • Inspection: Check finished parts with precision measuring tools to AS9100D standards.

Requirements

Qualifications

Required:

  • 3+ years professional machining experience
  • Performs own setups and offsets
  • Edits G-code at the controller
  • Experience machining parts to close tolerances
  • Reads complex prints with GD&T
  • Strong knowledge of precision measuring tools

Preferred:

  • Prior experience running 5-axis machines
  • Proficiency on manual mills and lathes
  • Aerospace or defense manufacturing background
  • AS9100D or Nadcap environment experience
  • Experience fabricating custom-designed equipment
