The Opportunity

The Safety Manager provides leadership and technical expertise to ensure the effective implementation of GCON's Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) program on assigned projects.

This role serves as a bridge between field operations and enterprise safety initiatives, supporting regulatory compliance, continuous improvement, and the development of safety staff. The Safety Manager provides day-to-day safety leadership on an assigned project or job site.

The Safety Manager serves as a key point of contact for jobsite safety concerns and regulatory inspections, supporting the Senior Safety Manager or Safety Director on strategic safety objectives, and coordinating with the client's safety department on safety-related matters.

Key Responsibilities

Site-Specific Safety Plan (SSSP)

  • Support project teams in developing and customizing Site-Specific Safety Plans (SSSPs)
  • Assist in developing client-specific safety tools and requirements, including SSSPs
  • Review subcontractor SSSPs for completeness and regulatory compliance; flag deficiencies for resolution
  • Support implementation of crisis management plans on assigned sites

Safety Audits & Compliance

  • Conduct routine safety audits and identify trends on assigned projects
  • Support pre-task plan audits for high-risk activities
  • Assist with regulatory inspections and citation responses
  • Ensure corrective actions are implemented in a timely manner and properly documented in safety management software

Incident Investigation & Claims

  • Participate in incident analysis meetings to help identify root causes and contributing factors
  • Recommend corrective actions for assigned projects
  • Support the Safety Director in vendor relationships and occupational clinic performance reviews

Training & Development

  • Deliver technical safety training for project and field leadership to strengthen hazard awareness and regulatory compliance
  • Support Safety Coordinators, Representatives, and Administrators through coaching and day-to-day guidance

Leadership & Communication

  • Act as a visible safety presence, reinforcing and promoting GCON's safety-first culture
  • Support the GCON safety program in client meetings and relevant industry associations
  • Contribute safety expertise to proposals and client pursuits as needed

Data & Reporting

  • Maintain project-specific safety dashboards; track leading and lagging indicators per client requirements
  • Provide monthly safety performance reports to the Safety Director
  • Recommend proactive safety measures based on trend analysis for assigned projects

EH&S Program Support

  • Support the Safety Director in implementing the Company EH&S program; coordinate with Safety Leaders across GCON operating divisions to maintain consistent safety culture, policies, and processes
  • Participate in industry associations that provide value in education, advocacy, and business development
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Safety Director, which may include:
    • Supporting safety training program development, content, and delivery
    • Managing safety training administrative functions (scheduling, attendance, evaluations, certifications)
    • Identifying and implementing required regulatory training at the project level
    • Conducting routine site safety audits and reviewing findings with project teams
    • Reviewing safety inspections, incident reports, and injury logs to identify recurring hazards
    • Creating and distributing monthly safety performance reports to Project Managers and Superintendents
    • Attending work group meetings and providing safety updates
    • Representing GCON as a safety spokesperson at Company events

Safety Education Requirements

  • OSHA 30-hour certification
  • Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications
  • Safety Trained Supervisor Construction (STSC) and Construction Safety and Health Technician (CSHT) certifications, or willingness to obtain
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development

Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 710 years of construction safety experience, including 35 years in data center, mission critical, or semiconductor environments
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and applicable state-specific regulations, hazard mitigation strategies, and claims management
  • Familiarity with high-risk activities (crane operations, confined space, fall protection, etc.)
  • Ability to support and coach junior safety staff
  • Proficiency in safety software and data analytics
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and problem-solving skills
  • Current driver's license and clean driving record per Company vehicle policy
  • Physical requirements include regular communication, ability to see, talk and hear, as well as the ability to frequently stand, walk, and use hands, fingers and arms. Additional abilities include sitting, climbing, and balancing, as well as the ability to frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to walk/access all areas of an active construction site, including areas with uneven footing, working at heights, and working in varying climate conditions

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling or stretching.
  • Standing/Walking/Sitting: Workday is combination of standing, walking, and sitting.
  • Legs: Must be able to climb stairs.
  • Hands/Arms: Constant use of hands/fingers for mouse/keyboard/computer use
  • Vision: Visual acuity in near, mid, and far range. Color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, hand/eye coordination.
  • Hearing: Sufficient to hear conversational levels in person and over the telephone and radio; sufficient to hear alarms on equipment.
  • Speech: Sufficient to make oneself heard in person, speak in front of groups, and be understood over the telephone and radio.
  • Lift/Carry: Up to 40lbs.
  • Bending/Twisting: Minimal.
  • Kneeling/Crouching/Crawling: Minimal.
  • May require travel.
  • Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
