Job description

As a Chemist, Innovation & Science – Laboratory in Narrows, Virginia, you will be responsible for developing and executing testing methodologies that generate accurate, timely data to solve complex analytical challenges where standard methods are not always available. The person in this role should be able to use and perform advanced troubleshooting and operational expertise across a broad range of laboratory instrumentation, including GC, GCMS, HPLC, IC, and SEMEDS, while supporting innovation, R&D, and manufacturing needs. You also will assist and supervise analysts following safe laboratory practices.

  • Development of new analytical techniques and implementation in the production lab.
  • Analyze non-standard samples and provide detailed reports to the submitter.
  • Train analysts on new testing procedures and techniques.
  • Troubleshoot methods and procedures when needed.
  • Provide analytical solutions to complex problems or samples.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS in Chemistry
  • 7 years of experience in analytical method development and optimization in an R&D laboratory.
  • Experience in one or more of the following instrumentation platforms: GC, HPLC, GCMS, SEM-EDS, ICP.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication in defense of data and results.
  • Ability to manage complex workloads without direct supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of statistical modeling including Minitab or other software tools.
  • Supervisory experience in an R&D laboratory.
  • Experience in Shimadzu Lab Solutions or Agilent Chemstation.
  • Cellulosics chemistry understanding.
