Job Title: Systems Engineer III

Job Description:
MIKEL is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Systems Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the software, and legacy hardware configuration for the GCCS-M Submarine community established at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Code 254. This position will require you to work as part of a highly skilled and multi-functional, multi-disciplined team, maintaining GCCS-Mโ€™s Program of Record (POR) configurations and submarine fleet support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • GCCS-M installation, On-The-Job (OJT) training and Fleet Support:
    • Obtain Subject Matter Expert (SME) level of knowledge on all GCCS-M configurations and a working knowledge of related systems.
    • Complete System Operational Verification Test (SOVT) and status reports.
    • Coordinate and obtain installation support from Combat Systems, Network administrators, On-Site Installation Coordinators and others as required.
  • Production Support:
    • Repackaging GCCS-M Group Level source code to accommodate standard submarine configurations and unique submarine identifiers.
    • Test the software and documentation packaged for each boat prior to installation.
    • Test GCCS-M against the latest MSU, IA tool, and network modifications.
  • Product Support:
    • Provide on-site and distance technical support to the fleet
  • Integrated Testing
    • Test GCCS-M against the latest Combat Control System (CCS) and subsystems.
  • Other duties as assigned.
    • Perform applicable testing, media generation, and test reports
    • Comply with applicable Policies and Procedures
    • Obtain and maintain required network and security credentials.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in the US Navy as a Fire Control Technician.
  • Hands-on experience with Tomahawk Weapons System and related combat systems.
  • Basic knowledge of Windows operating systems, Command Line Interfaces and computer troubleshooting methods.
  • Intermediate or higher knowledge of GCCS-M and interfacing systems.
  • Software installation processes and system functions is preferred but not required.
  • Must possess an intimate understanding of security practices in relation to working with classified material, proper handling of classified material, need to know, Operational Security and Information Security.
  • Ability to travel and climb vertical ladders is mandatory.
  • In-depth knowledge of networking, security practices, and infrastructure management.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Capacity to work in restricted access facilities and maintain compartmentalized information security standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Skills:

  • US Navy Instructor experience and SOBT
  • Familiarity with Navy PMS/MRCs/MIPs
  • Experience with other GCCS Family of Systems, i.e. GCCS-A, GCCS-AF, GCCS-J, GCCS-I3
  • Experience with other Navy C2 programs, i.e. MAVEN, ISAT, USW-DSS

Work Location: Newport, RI with ~10% travel
