About the role:

The Software Automation Lead is responsible for defining, building, and sustaining a robust automated testing ecosystem within the Common Q development environment. This role drives the adoption of modern automation practices tailored for Safety Software I&C systems, ensuring software quality, traceability, and efficiency across the development lifecycle.

You will report to the Supervisor, Safety Software System Engineering and be Hybrid at the Warrendale, PA facility.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design, development, and continuous improvement of a scalable automated software testing framework.
  • Define and enforce automation standards, best practices, and governance aligned with safety-critical software requirements.
  • Mentor engineers and act as the subject matter expert for software automation tools and methodologies.
  • Architect and implement automated test frameworks using industry-standard tools (e.g., Appium) and custom solutions as needed.
  • Develop tools and utilities to support test creation, execution, reporting, and maintenance.
  • Enable test reuse and parameterization to support multiple configurations and environments.
  • Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps to automate build, test, and validation workflows.
  • Ensure automated validation gates are in place to support safe and reliable software releases.
  • Monitor pipeline performance and optimize execution time and reliability.
  • Hands-on experience with UI and functional automation tools such as Selenium, Appium, Playwright, Cypress, or TestComplete, with a focus on installed application testing.
  • Familiarity with behavior-driven development (BDD) frameworks like Cucumber, SpecFlow, or Behave.
  • Understanding of test framework design patterns (e.g., Page Object Model keyword-driven frameworks).
  • Working knowledge of industrial automation systems and workflows, including basic I&C principles and system interactions.
  • Hands-on experience using any of the following for test automation: Azure DevOps (preferred), Jenkins, Bamboo, or TeamCity.
  • Ability to design reporting dashboards and metrics for automation coverage, pass/fail trends, and defect tracking.
  • Experience with tools such as TestRail, Zephyr, Xray, or Azure Test Plans for managing test cases and results.
Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of experience designing and implementing automated testing solutions.
  • Experience leading or contributing to automation projects.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards and compliance-driven development.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proficiency in C#, C/C++, Python.
  • Scripting skills in PowerShell, Bash, and Batch.
