Description
The purpose of this classification is to perform survey work on the Natural Gas Utility System to ensure compliance with State of Louisiana and Federal mandates. This position is subject to 24-hour call.
Examples of Duties
Applies knowledge of layout, characteristics of the municipal gas distribution system to safely survey, monitor, and classify leaks in the gas system, and report findings to the utility, as well as state and federal inspectors.
Prepares, processes, and maintains the appropriate records; prepares and processes all reports as required by department policies and procedures and applicable state and federal mandates.
Maintains a system for conducting and updating surveys.
Determines and initiates necessary repairs, precautions, warnings and safety measures.
Ensures compliance with state and federal mandates and guidelines.
Operates hand tools, including hand-held breaker, and equipment related to gas leak surveying; operates a personal computer as necessary to complete essential functions.
Inspects, cleans, and maintains various equipment related to gas leak surveying.
Typical Qualifications
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or GED; supplemented by significant experience in maintenance and repair of a natural gas system; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must possess a valid driver's license. Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment and maintain throughout employment for this classification.
Must obtain certifications as required by the Office of Pipeline Safety within six months of hire.
