Position Overview

The Mobile Gas Leak Detection Technician (AMLD) operates company vehicles equipped with advanced mobile leak detection (AMLD) technology to identify, record, and report potential gas leaks throughout designated survey areas. This position plays a critical role in ensuring public safety and environmental protection by supporting utility clients in the detection and prevention of natural gas emissions. THIS POSITION IS OVERNIGHT!!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate a company vehicle outfitted with the AMLD system to survey assigned routes. (OVERNIGHT ONLY)
  • Follow daily schedules and GPS-guided mapping to complete survey coverage efficiently.
  • Monitor AMLD software and instrumentation for gas leak indications while driving.
  • Accurately document leak indications, GPS coordinates, and environmental conditions using handheld or onboard systems.
  • Notify supervisors of confirmed or suspected leaks per company and client protocols.
  • Maintain AMLD equipment and vehicle cleanliness; perform basic troubleshooting when necessary.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies, traffic regulations, and worksite procedures.
  • Participate in safety meetings, training, and certification renewals as required.
  • Support other leak detection, survey, or inspection activities as assigned.


Qualifications and Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be able to work independently and safely during overnight hours.
  • Basic computer proficiency (Windows, tablets, GPS systems).
  • Ability to learn and operate specialized leak detection equipment and software.
  • Strong attention to detail, spatial awareness, and ability to follow routing instructions.
  • Excellent communication, observation, and reporting skills.
  • Willingness to travel and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
