Job description

Overview
We are seeking a full-time Aviation Programs Engineer/Manager 2 at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting successful conception, development, and/or application of sophisticated avionics systems including creation of technical system proposals and related documentation, identifying and documenting technical scope of change, and ensuring system compliance with customer requirements.
Essential Functions
  • Support OEM customer inquiries and ensures effective communication with customers and internal stakeholders
  • Develop a strong working knowledge of Garmin Integrated Flight Decks, Garmin aviation products, or sub-systems
  • Develop solid working knowledge of standard department processes and tools while demonstrating application throughout all program life cycles
  • Lead creation of various presentation materials to inform internal stakeholders of relevant program progress or issues with minimal direction or oversight,
  • Lead evaluation and execution of technical program requirements or customer inquiries with some oversight
  • Demonstrate strong troubleshooting skills that can assist with identification and resolution of technical or programmatic issues related to active programs
  • Lead creation and/or review of Garmin documentation such as coordination memos or scalable product notifications to inform customers of complex technical issues or other key information
  • May provide input and/or support for department process or tool definition
  • May develop project specific planning documents and provide input to cross-functional resource plans with minimal direction or oversight
  • May lead meetings with external/internal stake holders to track milestone progress, document actions and diligently follow through to completion with minimal direction or oversight
  • May contribute to technical roadmaps for presentation to OEM customers with minimal guidance
  • May coordinate investigation/response of complex certification related questions and may assist in preparation/transmittal of any technical documentation required to support
  • May lead creation of technical product proposals and related documentation in response to customer request for proposal or information with some oversight
  • May perform advanced integration testing of select interfaces or functionality
  • May identify, document, and coordinate technical aspects of new interfaces / functionality in order to support specific customer requirements
  • May create and/or maintain airframe specific configuration details such as system architecture, detailed interconnect, and equipment list
  • Apply Garmin's Mission, Vision, Values and Quality Policy and enthusiastically exhibits a desire to see Garmin succeed

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Math, or Physics AND a minimum of 1 year relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Demonstrates strong knowledge and skills in one or more of the following areas:
    • Technical Program Management and Communication
    • System Requirements and Integration
    • New Business Pursuits
  • Demonstrates strong troubleshooting skills
  • Driven problem solver with proven success in solving difficult problems
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others
  • Establishes a high standard regarding personal ownership and accountability of tasks and holds others to the same standard

Desired Qualifications
  • Master's Degree
  • Pilot's License
  • Garmin Integrated Flight Deck experience
  • Demonstrates proficient working knowledge of Garmin Integrated Flight Decks and general knowledge of all Garmin aviation products
  • Experience with development and collaboration tools such as Jira, Confluence, MS Project, or similar
  • System safety knowledge
