Job description

POSITION DESCRIPTION SPECIFICATIONS
DEPARTMENT: Shipping and Receiving
POSITION TITLE: Material Handler/Forklift Operator
DIRECT REPORT: Shipping Supervisor
Job Summary
Perform various manual and mechanical duties to move materials and products throughout storage and production areas. Duties include supplying all production floor with required materials and supply to keep constant flow, unloading raw stock, maintaining storage area organization, operation of forklift, and other similar duties primarily those pertaining to material handling operations.
Duties require verbal communication abilities, visual acuity to written material and in driving motorized material handling equipment, and manual coordination in the operation of motorized equipment. Visual acuity to written and computer screen data.
Essential Job Functions
  • Follow all established safety rules and regulations and utilize required safety equipment. Report defective equipment or unsafe conditions to the appropriate personnel. Maintain work area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Provide raw stock and converting materials to each machine. Review production schedules to determine required stock for each machine. Operate motorized forklift to retrieve materials from storage locations and transport them to the appropriate machine. Ensure adequate quantities are available for each machine. Return unused stock to storage.
  • Wrapping all finished goods using machine and occasional hand wrap. Label all finished goods with correct customer demanded labeling request.
  • Perform other similar duties as required by responsibility or necessity or as requested by supervisor.
  • Ability to collaborate and maintain Garlock's commitment to a Food Safe environment.

Skills and Knowledge
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Able to consistently act independently and prioritize work.
  • 2 years consistent forklift driving is a plus
  • Attention to detail.
  • Good time management and organizational skills
  • Can work under minimal supervision and in a team setting.
  • Effective communication skills
  • Basic computer skills
Physical Requirements
  • Typical environment of manufacturing, machinery, and production facilities
  • Exposure includes but is not limited to continuous noise, scent of materials, bright workstations, machinery with moving parts.
  • On feet for approx. 8-12 hours daily on concrete floors
  • Period lifting of pallets weight and material weighing up to 50lbs.
  • Squatting, crouching, turning, twisting, stretching, climbing steps, grabbing, pulling, pushing, and bending.

Typical environment of manufacturing and production facilities. Exposure includes but is not limited to continuous noise, scent of materials, bright workstations, machinery with moving parts.
