Job description

Do you love using words to captivate, inform, and inspire action? Can you seamlessly adapt your writing style to different formats and audiences? How about a knack for the occasional pun? If so, we want to meet you! The Dog & Cat Business Unit within Central Garden & Pet is seeking a Content Writer Intern to join our Content Team in Neptune City, NJ.
 
You’ll create content that elevates our brands and resonates with consumers across various touchpoints. This is an exciting opportunity to dive into the creative-meets-strategic world of content creation—crafting everything from website articles and social media posts to packaging copy, emails, press releases, and beyond. 
 
Ideally, you’re a wordsmith with demonstrated content creation and copyediting skills. You can easily pivot style and tone for the brand and channel, and you’re comfortable working both independently and in a team setting. You will report to the Associate Director, Content Business Strategy in the Creative Department.
 
This position is based out of our Neptune City, Nj facility 5x a week.
 
MEASURES OF SUCCESS:
  • Write original and engaging copy for a variety of platforms—websites, e-commerce, packaging, newsletters, social media, sell sheets, press releases, and more.
  • Adhere to style guidelines to create content in each brand’s unique voice, tone, and format.
  • Effectively manage multiple assignments to meet deadlines.
  • Regularly contribute fresh and creative content concepts/ideas.
  • Conduct competitive research to help enhance brands’ market presence.
  • Write and optimize website/e-commerce content for traditional SEO and emerging Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) best practices.
  • Integrate AI tools into your drafting and editing workflow to support, not replace, your own writing and editorial judgment as you move from first draft to final copy.
  • Stay curious about new AI tools and techniques, experimenting with what works best for different content types and sharing learnings with the team.
  • Conduct keyword research for search engine optimization on both search results and e-commerce platforms.
 
IDEAL CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES:
  • Published writing samples or a link to an online portfolio are required for consideration
  • 2-3 years of experience writing content either in-house or an agency setting
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, or related field
  • Proven writer and proofreader with professional written and verbal skills
  • Ability to adapt tone and writing style based on medium and audience
  • Can prioritize multiple types of projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with e-commerce product content
  • Understanding of SEO/AEO/GEO best practices is preferred
  • Experience with keyword research tools such as SEM Rush is preferred
