Position:         Assistant Varsity Boys Basketball Coach 
Location:        Prince Edward County High School
Reports To:    Head Varsity Coach / Athletic Director/Principal
Employment Type: Seasonal / Stipend


POSITION OVERVIEW

The Assistant Varsity Boys Basketball Coach plays a key role in supporting the Head Coach in all aspects of the varsity boys basketball program. This position requires advanced knowledge of the game, leadership in player development, and a strong commitment to building a competitive, culture-driven, education-based athletic program.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

 Assist in designing and implementing practice plans that support varsity-level skill development, team execution, and competitive preparation.

 Provide advanced skill instruction, positional development, and game strategy support.

 Support scouting, film breakdown, opponent preparation, and game-plan development as assigned by the Head Coach.

 Assist with in-game coaching decisions, player communication, adjustments, and bench management.

 Help oversee offseason development, open gym expectations, strength and conditioning alignment, and player accountability.

 Mentor student-athletes in leadership, discipline, competitive mindset, academic responsibility, and sportsmanship.

 Assist with program organization, including equipment, uniforms, travel expectations, communication, and team logistics.

 Contribute to program visibility, community engagement, and positive representation of Prince Edward County Athletics & Activities.

PROGRAM LEADERSHIP EXPECTATIONS

 Uphold and model the standards, culture, and expectations of Prince Edward County Athletics & Activities.

 Serve as a leader within the boys basketball program and support the development of junior varsity and younger student-athletes.

 Reinforce a unified program vision from sub-varsity through varsity competition.

 Promote academic success, citizenship, accountability, and college/career readiness.

 Support communication, professionalism, and alignment among coaches, student-athletes, families, and school leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS

 Previous varsity-level playing and/or coaching experience preferred.

 Strong understanding of advanced basketball concepts, systems, scouting, and game strategy.

 Ability to lead, teach, motivate, and develop high school student-athletes.

 Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills.

 Commitment to education-based athletics and positive program culture.

 Must meet all Prince Edward County Public Schools and VHSL coaching requirements.
