Data Analyst I

Position Overview

2ndWave is seeking a Data Analyst I to provide professional data management and analytical support services that improve the quality, consistency, and timeliness of data-driven analysis informing program operations and leadership decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, clean, validate, and organize structured and semi-structured data from Government and industry data sources.

  • Perform statistical analysis and identify trends within available datasets.

  • Develop recurring reports, dashboards, visualizations, and other analytical products using Government-approved software.

  • Conduct data quality reviews and maintain documentation of data sources, business rules, assumptions, and methodologies.

  • Maintain databases, spreadsheets, repositories, and related data management systems.

  • Support recurring weekly, monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc reporting requirements.

  • Prepare briefing materials, charts, graphics, tables, and written analytical summaries.

  • Coordinate with Government personnel to identify reporting requirements and analytical priorities.

  • Respond to internal and external data calls, surveys, and information requests.

  • Ensure all work complies with applicable Government data governance, privacy, and information security requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Statistics, Economics, Business, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • One to three years of experience in data analysis, data management, or a related analytical role.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and data visualization or reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).

  • Strong attention to detail with demonstrated experience in data cleaning, validation, and documentation.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present analytical findings clearly.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a favorably adjudicated Government background investigation; U.S. citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting federal government clients, preferably within the Department of Commerce or a trade- or manufacturing-related mission area.

  • Familiarity with statistical analysis tools or languages (e.g., R, Python, SQL).

  • Experience responding to data calls and preparing executive-level briefing materials.

Work Environment

Work is performed at the U.S. Department of Commerce, Herbert C. Hoover Building, Washington, DC. Telework or remote work may be authorized as appropriate. Standard support hours are Monday through Friday during normal operating hours, excluding Federal holidays.

Compensation

The compensation for this position is determined based on a wide variety of factors, including but not limited to an individual's skill set, experience, training, certifications, and education, as well as business needs and internal equity. A reasonable estimate of the current compensation range for this position is $100,000 – $125,000.
