Position Summary
The Wheeling Nailers are expanding their game day broadcast and looking to hire experienced Audio Engineers for the 2026-2027 home season.
The Audio Engineer is responsible for the setup, operation, monitoring, and maintenance of professional audio systems supporting live broadcasts, radio programming, and arena events. This role ensures high-quality sound production for live audiences, broadcast listeners, and streaming platforms by managing audio consoles, signal routing, microphones, playback systems, intercom communications, and recording equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Operate digital and analog audio consoles for live broadcasts, radio shows, sporting events, concerts, and arena productions.
  • Mix live audio for in-house public address (PA), broadcast, radio, and streaming platforms.
  • Set up, configure, and maintain microphones, wireless systems, intercoms, and audio playback equipment.
  • Monitor audio quality throughout productions and make real-time adjustments to ensure optimal sound.
  • Coordinate with producers, directors, talent, announcers, DJs, stage managers, and technical crews during live productions.
  • Route and manage audio signals between control rooms, studios, arena systems, and press box.
  • Record live events and maintain audio archives when required.
  • Perform pre-event equipment testing, sound checks, and post-event equipment breakdown.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues quickly to minimize production interruptions.
  • Maintain and organize audio equipment inventory and recommend repairs or replacements when necessary.
  • Assist with installation, maintenance, and upgrades of audio systems.

Required Qualifications
  • 1+ years of audio engineering experience.
  • Experience operating professional digital mixing consoles (Behringer X32).
  • Working knowledge of audio signal flow, gain structure, equalization, compression, and digital networking.
  • Experience with wireless microphone systems and RF coordination.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve audio equipment failures under time-sensitive conditions.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and flexible schedules based on event requirements.

Preferred Skills
  • Knowledge of live sports and entertainment production workflows.
  • Experience supporting radio automation and broadcast systems.
  • Familiarity with streaming and webcast production.
  • Understanding of video production workflows as they relate to audio.
  • Basic networking and IT troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with intercom systems, matrix routing, and broadcast communications.
  • Ability to multitask while maintaining attention to detail in high-pressure environments.
