Game Admin information

What is a game admin?

A Game Admin (Game Administrator) is responsible for monitoring and managing online game servers, enforcing rules, and ensuring a fair and enjoyable experience for players. They handle player disputes, moderate in-game chat, investigate reports of cheating or abuse, and may assist with technical issues. Some Game Admins also help with testing updates or reporting bugs. Their role is crucial in maintaining a positive gaming community and ensuring smooth gameplay.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a game admin?

To thrive as a Game Admin, you need strong knowledge of gaming platforms, rule enforcement, and conflict resolution, often supported by experience with moderation tools and community management systems. Familiarity with game server management, ticketing systems, and, in some cases, remote administration tools or platforms like Discord and Steam is beneficial. Excellent communication, patience, and problem-solving abilities help Game Admins effectively mediate disputes and support a positive gaming environment. These skills ensure fair play, enhance player satisfaction, and maintain a safe and engaging community for all users.

What challenges do game admins commonly face, and how do they address them?

Game Admins often handle challenging situations such as managing disruptive players, enforcing rules fairly, and resolving conflicts within the gaming community. They are trained to use moderation tools and clear guidelines to maintain a respectful, safe, and enjoyable environment for all participants. Successful Game Admins balance strict rule enforcement with empathy, ensuring that all players are heard and treated fairly. Their ability to respond calmly and consistently in stressful situations helps foster a positive and active community.

Job description

TapBlaze is a 15 person independent game studio in Los Angeles. We make Good Pizza, Great Pizza, Good Coffee, Great Coffee, and Homematch. Over 300 million downloads combined. We are self funded, profitable, and we ship live content on real schedules. This role is in our LA office five days a week. If that does not work for you, this is not the right fit, and we would rather you know that now.

The Role

You will be the person who makes sure everyone in the studio knows what they are working on, when it is due, and what comes next. Right now that clarity does not exist everywhere it should. Your job is to build it and keep it.

This is a hands on production role. You will live in Jira. You will talk to every person in the studio every week. You will be the first call when anyone has a question about tasks, priorities, or blockers. At a big studio this job is one layer in a production org. Here you are the production org.

What You Will Own
  • Jira and all associated planning tools for every active game project. Board structure, workflow, hygiene, reporting. If it is in Jira, it is yours.

  • Schedules and deadlines. Every task that enters the pipeline gets an owner and a due date. That includes requests between teams and across offices. Nothing sits in limbo waiting for someone to guess how urgent it is.

  • Schedule risk. When a milestone is slipping, you see it first, you flag it early, and you drive the tradeoff conversation. You make the call on when the team needs to push and when the scope needs to cut.

  • Standups and status. You run them, you keep them short, and you make them worth attending.

  • Single point of contact. Anyone in the studio with a question about what to work on comes to you and leaves with an answer.

What We Are Looking For
  • 3 to 6 years of production experience in games, specifically free to play mobile titles with live ops. You have shipped content updates on a recurring cadence and you know what an event calendar looks like from the inside.

  • Deep working knowledge of Jira as an admin, not just a user. You have built workflows, not just moved tickets.

  • Comfortable holding people to dates without being the person everyone avoids. You get commitments, you track them, and you follow up.

  • Clear, fast written communication.

  • Experience coordinating across time zones is a plus. Part of our production team is in Beijing.

How We Work

We are small on purpose. Everyone ships. There is no layer between you and the games or the people making them. We believe beauty is in the details. If you have read this far, include that phrase somewhere in your application.

Physical Requirements
  • Los Angeles, CA: Reliably commute or relocate before starting work;

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Compensation

The range for this role is $90,000 to $115,000 depending on experience, with the opportunity to earn an annual discretionary bonus.

Commitment to Diversity

As an equal opportunity employer committed to meeting the needs of a multigenerational and multicultural workforce, TAPBLAZE recognizes that a diverse staff, reflective of our community, is integral to our success. We hire talent at all levels regardless of race, color, religion, age, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, or disability, and actively foster inclusion within our company and across interactions with vendors and partners.
