Job description

OVERVIEW

JOB TITLE:Gallery and Collections AssistantLOCATION: St. PaulPAY RATE: $16.50HOURS: TBD

Job Summary: This position works under supervision of the University Curator. The assistant will work with all university art collections, as well as in the John P. Monahan Gallery and the Department of Art History Gallery. Previous experience required, see required qualifications.

General Information:

  • This position is open to undergraduate students with previous experience as a Gallery and Collections Assistant.
  • Pay rate is $18.00/hour.
  • Position is for summer 2026.
  • This position requires daytime availability Monday - Friday.
  • This position includes:
    • Computer tasks completed individually.
    • Physical tasks, typically in tangent with at least one other individual, moving and installing artwork.
    • Remote work
    • Work on both the St. Paul and Minneapolis campuses
  • Assistant must check their email daily and promptly respond to messages from supervisors.
  • Many of the tasks can be very repetitive and require detailed focus.

 Essential Functions:

  • Assist curator with exhibition work for the John P. Monahan Gallery and Department of Art History Gallery.
  • Work directly with art collections on various tasks as assigned
  • Collection database management updating artwork records
  • Assisting with photographing objects in the art collections
  • May assist with preliminary research for various projects
QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have previous experience working as a Gallery and Exhibition Assistant with the University Curator.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to remain focused during repetitive tasks
  • Strong research, writing, speaking, math, and communication skills.
  • Self-motivation and interest in other cultures
  • Familiarity with Mac computers, Excel spreadsheets, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and OneDrive.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity of Adobe Create Suite
  • Photography skills
  • Familiarity with data management systems

To be eligible for student employment, St. Thomas students must be degree seeking at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels.
