The Federal Work Study Gallery Assistant supports the Universities gallery and retail spaces and consistently interact with customers and students. The Gallery Assistant will act as a greeter and warmly welcome all visitors as well as other students and staff. The Gallery Assistant will also be expected to install rotating art exhibitions at the University's various gallery locations. This role will also assist with special events, such as the Academy's annual Fine Art Faculty Auction, and more exciting events. This position is required to exhibit professionalism and provide strong customer service.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide excellent customer service to all gallery visitors, while maintaining a friendly and outgoing demeanor.
  • Maintain professional communication and a positive attitude.
  • Use POS system to process sales transactions and prepare reports.
  • Be reliable and punctual, while dressing and acting professionally.
  • Assist with installations and de-installations of monthly exhibitions.
  • Promptly and professionally answer incoming calls.
  • Assist with special events as needed.
  • Process and catalog art and merchandise sales.

Qualifications:
  • Have successfully completed at least one semester of classes at ArtU.
  • This position is fully on-site at 2801 Leavenworth, candidates must be able to travel to the Cannery.
  • Self-motivated, independent, strong communicator, and reliable
  • Skilled with Microsoft Office
  • Prior retail or customer service experience preferred
  • Gallery or Docent experience is preferred

Reports to: Candice Rollerson, Director, Academic Administrators
Pay Rate: $19.61 per hour

Work Schedule: Up to 20 hours/week*
*Federal Work Study work schedules may not conflict with the student's class schedule.
Length of Employment: The student's starting term at the Academy of Art University through graduation.
