Pediatric Cardiac ICU - Advanced Practice Provider (Physician Assistant)Shift Details
  • 39 hours per week
  • 13-hour Day/Night rotating shift schedule
  • Day shift: 6:00 AM - 7:00 PM
  • Night shift: 6:00 PM - 7:00 AM
  • On call/callback required
  • Holidays and weekends per unit needs
  • Scheduling aims to avoid mixing day and night shifts within the same week; anticipated split is approximately 50% days and 50% nights

Position Overview
  • 16-bed acuity-adaptable Pediatric Cardiac Care Center
  • Caring for critically ill pediatric congenital cardiac patients
  • Advanced Practice Providers serve in a primary covering provider role
  • Fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment
  • Occasional care provided for adult patients with congenital heart disease requiring medical or post-operative management
  • Occasional care for PICU boarder patients with a variety of critical care needs
Responsibilities
  • Managing patients with congenital heart disease, including complex anatomy and physiology
  • Caring for a wide range of high-acuity patients, including:
    • Pre- and post-operative pediatric cardiac surgical patients
    • High-risk single ventricle physiology
    • Open chest management
    • Arrhythmia management
    • Vasopressor support
    • External and internal pacemakers
    • VA/VV ECMO
    • CRRT
  • Knowledge of ICU procedural skills is essential; however, the role is not primarily procedural
  • Collaborating alongside physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other multidisciplinary team members
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a Pediatric Cardiac ICU
  • Knowledge of complex congenital cardiac anatomy and physiology
  • Completion of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant program
  • Active New York State Physician Assistant licensure in good standing
  • Current national certification as a Physician Assistant by NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants)
  • BLS certification from AHA
  • PALS certification from AHA
Preferred Qualifications
  • Pediatric Acute Care Physician Assistant certification
Required Skills
  • PA experience - minimum 3 years
  • New York State (NYS) licensure - required
  • Critical Care experience - minimum 3 years
