Job description

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are essential to Georgia Power's strategic initiatives, technological advancements, and daily operation. As the primary data source and asset repository, GIS covers land, distribution, and lighting facilities, serving as the foundation for both current and future application development. This position resides within the Geographic Solutions and Services (GSS) organization and is responsible for the input, processing, and maintenance of Distribution data in accordance with departmental work procedures and consistent with Southern Company's GIS Data strategy.  The position is also responsible for supporting local and system wide Storm Restoration efforts which may require travel and work outside of normal business hours. The successful candidate will work closely with GSS team members and Power Delivery (PD) engineering customers to ensure the integrity, reliability, and effective utilization of GIS data across the organization.

 Job Qualifications 

Education Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required   

  • Associates Degree or Certificate in GIS is a preferred 

  • Bachelor's Degree in GIS, Geography, or STEM field is a plus
     

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Create engineering construction prints using Esri mapping applications 

  • Ensure GIS changes are posted timely and accurately

  • Adhere to mapping standards including but not limited to offsets, annotation, and symbology

  • Engage in storm restoration activities

  • Validate GIS model connectivity and correct connectivity issues

  • Perform quality control and data validation activities 

  • Demonstrate ownership of assigned work 

  • Demonstrate ability to troubleshoot problems and implement solutions

  • Provide basic GIS application support to users

  • Basic GIS knowledge 

  • Knowledge Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Outlook, etc.)

  • Basic knowledge of the utility systems (electrical systems is a plus)

  • Ability to perform basic spatial queries

  • Ability to research customer information

  • Ability to decipher DOT and construction prints

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills

  • Contribute to an overall positive team environment
