Stringless Machine Control Survey GPS Technician


Position Summary
The Stringless Machine Control Survey GPS Technician is responsible for supporting field operations through survey layout, GPS machine control systems, grade control technology, and construction surveying activities. This position works closely with project managers, superintendents, operators, and field crews to ensure accurate project layout, machine guidance, and as-built documentation for heavy civil construction projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Survey & Layout
•
Perform construction staking, site layout, and topographic surveys.
•
Collect and process survey data using GPS rovers, robotic total stations, and related equipment.
•
Verify project control points, elevations, and benchmarks.
•
Maintain accurate survey records and field documentation.
GPS & Machine Control
•
Review and deploy machine control models for grading, excavation, and paving operations.
•
Installation and distribution of GPS files to field equipment.
•
Support machine control systems including base stations, rovers, and onboard equipment.
•
Troubleshoot GPS equipment and machine control issues in the field.
•
Perform calibrations and verify accuracy of machine control systems.
Construction Support
•
Coordinate with superintendents and operators to maintain accurate grades and alignments.
•
Perform quantity calculations and production tracking as requested.
•
Provide technical support for grade control and layout activities.
•
Assist estimating and project management teams with site measurements.
Safety
•
Promote and enforce company safety policies.
•
Follow OSHA and project-specific safety requirements.
•
Conduct work safely around heavy equipment and active construction operations.

Qualifications


Required
•  High school diploma or GED.
•  Heavy highway, site development, or civil construction experience.
•  Valid driver's license.


Preferred
•  Survey Technician certification or Surveyor Intern designation.
•  Experience is a plus, but not required, using GPS equipment, rovers, and total stations such as 
Trimble, Topcon, Leica, or other machine control platforms.
Physical Requirements
•  Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
•  Ability to walk uneven terrain and active construction sites.
•  Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
•  Ability to travel to project locations as needed.
