Position Description
The Town of Marana is seeking Recreation Aides to work in the Parks and Recreation Department. This is a short-term temporary position and an exciting opportunity to provide support to recreation staff to ensure the best delivery of recreation programs. This position will primarily be stationed at the front desk of the Marana Aquatics and Recreation Center (MARC), serving as the first point of contact for visitors and providing exceptional customer service.
Pursuant to the Marana Town Code, Sections 3-1-2(D) and 3-1-3(B), and the current Salary Schedule implemented by the Town Manager, the position of Recreation Aide is defined as an Unclassified position. Unclassified positions are at-will employees and employment that may be terminated upon the will of the employer or employee at any time with or without cause.
SCHEDULE: This position works a variable schedule based on operational needs, for up to 19 hours per week. Early mornings, late evenings, Saturday, Sunday and holiday shifts may be assigned. Weekday availability between 5:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. is required, evening and weekend shifts on occasion. Scheduled shifts will vary within this timeframe.
DURATION: Temporary Fall season role; extension possible based on performance and business needs into next season.
- Fall Season: August 1 - November 30
- Winter Season: December 1 - February 28
- Summer Season: March 1 - July 31
Hiring Rate: $16.00 per hourReturning Marana employees may be eligible for a $0.25/hour increase for each returning year up to a maximum pay rate of $17.00/hour.
Examples of Duties
  • Leads assigned recreation programs; prepares and sets up program activities; maintains facilities and equipment; performs other duties related to conducting programs.
  • Provides excellent customer service.
  • Performs light administrative work by completing documents; files, makes and receives phone calls regarding programs.
  • Provides excellent customer service, communicate effectively and courteously
  • Assists customers with payments; resolves issues and inquiries
  • Provides administrative support to Parks and Recreation staff

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be at least 16 years of age at time of application submission
  • Must pass fingerprint clearance background check
  • Must pass the Town of Marana background check
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical and a 25-pound lift test

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 6 months' experience working as a recreation aide, sports official or in a closely related field in multiple settings with different age groups.
