Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION 

Job Title: Career Advisor - Appleton East High School 

Grade Level: High School

Classification/Contract Days: Hourly 

Exempt/Non-Exempt: Non-exempt 

Relationships: 

  • Direct Supervisor: Building Principal
  • Works With: Administrator, Administrative Assistant, Teachers, FVTC, Students, Parents/Guardians, and the Public 

Essential Function:  

  • Serve as a facilitator, liaison, and guide to students and families exploring post-high school opportunities at FVTC and other post-secondary institutions.
  • Meet at least monthly with FVTC Admission Specialist(s) for training on FVTC programs, services and admission processes.
  • Track student contacts and student progress through the admission process. Use reports and data to evaluate effectiveness of activities and initiatives.
  • Administer student surveys (e.g., seniors in October and March; juniors in March) to support advising and post-secondary planning.
  • Assist teachers and students with dual credit, including enrolling students, recording grades, and communicating with FVTC and other post-secondary institutions.
  • Administer ACCUPLACER testing to seniors as appropriate (e.g., based on ACT scores) and support related placement/next-step processes.
  • Support students through post-secondary application and transition steps, including applying to FVTC and other institutions (program discussions, waiver forms, testing/placement needs, new student registration), promoting and assisting with FAFSA (including applicable grants), organizing campus and classroom visits, supporting ELL and IEP transitions for individual students, serving as a resource for parents/guardians, and assisting semester graduates with post-secondary transition.
  • Collaborate with Student Success Coordinators and high school Counselors to broaden awareness and increase access
  • Participate in evaluating the program's effectiveness at the end of each semester by reviewing data and analyzing student survey feedback

Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or HSED/GED (at Non-school-wide Title I Schools)
  • A minimum of two (2) years of college (48 college credits) (at School-wide Title I Schools).
  • Must have current training or be willing to obtain training in the use of technology to support  instruction and other assistive technology.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work successfully as a team member with all staff members.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a variety of settings with professional staff, students, and parents.
