Job description

The Role:

Reporting to the Manager of Design Engineering, you will be responsible for designing and developing innovative solutions that meet client requirements and industry standards. As a Design Engineer, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, manufacturing engineers, quality assurance, and the production floor to ensure the successful implementation of design projects.
You will conduct engineering studies on design for products, associated and subsystem components, and structures while reviewing engineering proposals, process requirements, and related technical data of design. The Design Engineer position is vital to the business and will partner with cross-functional stakeholders and departments across the organization.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Applies engineering principles to design, modify, or develop facilities, testing, machines, equipment, or processes.
  • Conducts analytical studies on engineering proposals to develop design for products, equipment, machines, associated and subsystems components, and structures.
  • Creates and releases Engineering Drawings, Bills of Material (BOM's), ASME calculations and Routings.
  • Analyzes data to determine feasibility of product proposal; analyzes product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine designs that can be produced by existing manufacturing or processing facilities and methods.
  • Develops custom procedures as needed.
  • May determine feasibility of designing new plant equipment or modifying existing facilities considering costs, available space, time limitations, company planning, and other technical and economic factors.
  • Confers with research personnel to clarify or resolve problems and develops design, design modifications as required.
  • Prepares or directs preparations of product or system layout and detailed drawings and schematics; coordinates manufacturing or building of prototype product or system.
  • Analyzes data and calculations to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
  • Studies engineering and technical publications to keep abreast of technological changes and developments in industry.
  • Completes work 'on-time' and within budget.
  • Ensures product fit, form and function meet customer requirements.

Requirements:

  • At least 3+ years of related experience and/or training in a related field; a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering is required.
  • Knowledge of PC software applications such as AutoCAD is required; Solid Modeling and 3D Design in Inventor and Vault PDM are preferred.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as heavy equipment mfg., welding technology, control panels with systems-specific pressure vessels, piping, pump, fluid transfer, and heat transfer design experience.
  • Experience reading, analyzing, and interpreting professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Experience with mathematical concepts and applying common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • ASME (Section VIII & Section I), PED, CRN, CSA, ATEX / IEC, NEC, NACE, ANSI, and TEMA code experience and familiarity preferred.
