Position: Safety (EH&S) Intern
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Location: Corporate Office - Stevens Point, WI (with site visits to other facilities as needed)
Duration: June 2026 - August 2026
Reporting Relationship
The EH&S Intern will report directly to the Environmental Health & Safety Manager and work in partnership with team members across multiple departments and production sites.
Job Summary
Steel King, founded in 1970, is a leader in the material handling industry and is proud to offer a hands-on internship opportunity for a Safety-focused student interested in industrial health and safety. The EH&S Intern will assist in promoting a culture of safety through risk assessments, inspections, and policy development.
This role is ideal for a student pursuing a degree in Occupational Safety, Risk Management, Safety Engineering, or a related field who is looking to gain experience in workplace safety practices, compliance, and program development in a manufacturing environment.
General Duties/Responsibilities
Safety Program Support:
  • Assist in the development, documentation, and implementation of company safety policies and procedures.
  • Participate in risk assessments, facility inspections, and hazard identification activities.
  • Support the creation and delivery of training content, presentations, and safety materials for employees.
  • Help investigate incidents and accidents, collect data, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate safety documentation and logs for compliance and reporting.
  • Assist in preparation for audits, inspections, and EH&S reviews.
  • Attend and contribute to safety committee meetings and workshops.
  • Perform other EH&S-related duties as assigned by the EH&S Manager.

  • Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required knowledge and abilities will be considered.

Hours of Work / Travel
  • Standard work schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (1-hour unpaid lunch).
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required based on business needs.
  • Minimal travel may be required to Steel King's production facilities in Stevens Point and New London, WI.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is expected.

Work Environment
  • Primarily based at the Stevens Point Corporate Office with occasional time in production facilities.
  • Involves both office work and exposure to manufacturing environments.
  • Uses standard office equipment including computers, phones, scanners, and printers.

Physical Demands
  • Must be able to communicate effectively by talking and hearing.
  • Frequent standing, walking (approx. 1 hour per day), reaching, typing, and use of hands.
  • Must occasionally lift and move items up to 20 lbs.
  • Must be able to navigate industrial environments safely and effectively.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands to type, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee will lift up to 10 lbs. frequently and up to 20 lbs. infrequently.
  • Frequency of walking is approximately one hour per day.
