Job Description:

We approach problems with creativity and innovation.  The Newport News, VA office of Schnabel Engineering is seeking an Experienced Engineering Technician to join our growing practice.  We are looking for a motivated candidate with attention to detail, a passion to continue to develop as a professional, and a desire to be part of a strong team. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Field observation and testing during placement of construction materials including soil, concrete, asphalt, masonry, and sprayed-on fireproofing 
  • Soil and concrete laboratory testing

Required Skills/Experience:

  • High School degree
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • 4+ years of construction experience.  Technical post-high school education such as a degree in engineering or geology may be eligible as a substitution for experience.
  • Possess good oral, written, communication, and organizational skills
  • Able to perform rudimentary mathematic computations
  • Attentive to detail
  • Interest in working outdoors on construction sites
  • Ability to lift 60 pounds and be physically able to negotiate construction sites, enter trenches per applicable OSHA standards, climb ladders to access elevated spaces and building rooftops, and work outside in potentially challenging weather conditions

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record, and credit check
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment screening

The compensation range for an Experienced Engineering Technician is between $20/hr to $30/hr. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors.
