Job description

Senior Software Engineer

As a Software Engineer II you will work with a team of full-stack developers that work on all server-side aspects of smart home security. Our mandate is very broad and includes but not limited to processing security events, provisioning equipment, monitoring station signaling, testing-automation and integrating a wide and diverse set of devices with the Alarm.com connected ecosystem. Our software development includes working on backend services, websites, and database design that make-up our whole ecosystem.

As a Software Engineer II, you will have the opportunities to work across a variety of technical areas. Typical projects will involve diverse technologies and skills, and require close collaboration with device engineers, business partners, and other engineering teams. Strong multi-tasking skills and the ability to self-learn are must-have attributes. Candidate must be able to communicate well within a team environment and work independently on self-directed tasks.

Very few companies innovate and develop across such a broad range of technologies as Alarm.com. This position is ideal for the candidate who seeks a collaborative, people-first company culture where one can work closely with smart and highly productive people across a very interesting spectrum of wireless, software, and hardware/device technologies to develop outstanding consumer products.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?

  • Make an immediate impact: You can expect to be given real responsibility for bringing new technologies to the marketplace. You will be empowered to perform as soon as you join the team!
  • Work with the latest technologies: You'll gain exposure to a broad spectrum of IoT and SaaS technology. Our tech stack includes .NET, SQL Server, Kafka, Ember.js, Node.js, as well as native iOS and Android applications.
  • Be Empowered: We don't want to micro-manage you. We barely want to tell you what to do. We want you to own stuff and bring your experience to make those products best in class.
  • Focus on fun: Alarm.com places high value on our team culture. We even have a committee dedicated to hosting a stand-out holiday party, happy hours, and other fun corporate events.
  • com values working tougher and collaborating in person. Our employees work from the office 4 days a week.

WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR ALARM.COM?

  • Develop full stack software for a wide variety of platforms and technologies.
  • Take part in the entire project life cycle, from requirements development to deployment with lots of cross-team collaboration.
  • Engage in the research, evaluation, and application of new technologies and methodologies to solve challenging project goals.
  • Exercise good judgment. Know when to work quickly, and when to build a robust solution.
  • Bring your ideas! We want our engineers to collaborate on product development, not blindly build to a spec.
  • Other duties as assigned

WHAT DO YOU NEED?

We are seeking someone who has:

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a related field or equivalent work experience
  • 3-5 years of professional software development experience
  • Experience leading and mentoring other engineers
  • Strong object-oriented programming skills; C# a plus
  • Experience with database design and development

We would love if you have some of the below (but it is fine if you don't):

  • Experience with or strong understanding of firmware and electrical engineering
  • Experience working with high-availability, high-throughput services
  • Experience with external facing APIs and/or third-party platform integrations
  • Familiarity with distributed event streaming platforms, such as Kafka
  • Experience with JavaScript development using an established JS framework, such as Ember

Please note that sponsorship of new applicants for employment authorization, or any other immigration-related support, is not available for this position at this time.

WHY WORK FOR ALARM.COM?

  • Collaborate with outstanding people: We hire only the best. Our standards are high and our employees enjoy working alongside other high achievers.
