Graphic Designer

Hearst Midwest

Bring Ideas to Life. Create Work That Makes an Impact.

At Hearst Newspapers, we're transforming how local businesses connect with their communities. We're looking for a talented, creative Graphic Designer to join our Midwest Creative Services team-someone who thrives on bringing ideas to life through compelling visual storytelling across print and digital platforms.

If you're passionate about great design, enjoy collaborating with a variety of teams, and love balancing creativity with strategy, we'd love to meet you.

What You'll Do

As a Graphic Designer, you'll create engaging marketing materials that help businesses grow and support Hearst's award-winning brands. Every day is different-you might be designing a digital campaign, creating a print advertisement, developing promotional materials, or collaborating with Sales and Marketing to bring a client's vision to life.

You'll:

  • Design high-quality print and digital marketing materials, including advertisements, brochures, direct mail, presentations, signage, social media graphics, and promotional campaigns.
  • Create production-ready files that meet print and digital specifications.
  • Partner with Sales, Marketing, Production, Editorial, and other internal teams to develop creative solutions that achieve business goals.
  • Work directly with internal stakeholders-and occasionally clients-to understand project objectives and deliver exceptional creative work.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining outstanding attention to detail and meeting deadlines.
  • Contribute ideas that improve creative quality, workflows, and team collaboration.
What Makes You Successful

You're naturally creative, organized, and curious. You enjoy solving problems through design and take pride in producing polished work that exceeds expectations. You're comfortable juggling multiple priorities and understand that great communication is just as important as great design.

We're looking for someone who has:

  • Experience designing for both print and digital media.
  • Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop).
  • A solid understanding of typography, layout, branding, color theory, and print production.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • A customer-focused mindset and a passion for delivering exceptional work.
Bonus Points
  • Experience working directly with clients or customers.
  • Knowledge of print production processes and file preparation.
  • A passion for learning new design trends, software, and creative techniques.
Experiment with Advanced AI

At Hearst Newspapers, we believe technology empowers creativity.

Through our exclusive ChatGPT Enterprise partnership and growing portfolio of AI-powered tools, our designers use AI to streamline workflows, generate creative concepts, organize ideas, improve copy, and accelerate routine tasks-giving you more time to focus on what matters most: creating exceptional work.

We're looking for someone who's excited to explore how emerging technology can enhance creativity while keeping great design and human judgment at the center of everything we do.

Why Hearst Newspapers?

Hearst Newspapers is one of the nation's leading media organizations, reaching millions of readers each week through trusted local journalism, digital products, and innovative marketing solutions.

With more than 2,500 employees across the country, Hearst Newspapers includes iconic brands such as the Houston Chronicle, San Francisco Chronicle, Dallas Morning News, San Antonio Express-News, Albany Times Union, and dozens of other daily and weekly publications.

When you join Hearst, you'll become part of a collaborative team that values creativity, innovation, continuous learning, and delivering meaningful work that helps local businesses and communities thrive.

What You'll Bring
  • Associate's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or a related field-or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience creating engaging visual content across multiple platforms.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
  • A collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset.
  • A desire to continuously learn, grow, and contribute to an innovative creative team.
Why You'll Love This Role

This is an opportunity to work on a wide variety of creative projects, collaborate with talented colleagues across multiple Hearst properties, and make a real impact through your work. Whether you're designing for print, digital, or emerging platforms, you'll have the opportunity to grow your skills, explore new technologies, and help shape the future of creative storytelling at Hearst Newspapers.

If you're ready to bring bold ideas, exceptional design, and creative energy to one of the nation's leading media organizations, we'd love to hear from you. Apply today!
