MRI Technologist
Job Type: Full-Time, Regular
Schedule: Days (8:00 AM - 8:00 PM)
Job Summary
Under general supervision and following established procedures, performs a variety of MRI procedures on pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment. Produces high-quality diagnostic images to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses and injuries.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Obtain brief medical histories from patients.
  • Explain MRI procedures to patients, family members, and patient representatives.
  • Screen patients for MRI safety and contraindications.
  • Position patients appropriately using immobilization devices when necessary.
  • Select appropriate imaging techniques, protocols, and coils.
  • Operate MRI scanners and associated equipment.
  • Calibrate and test MRI consoles and peripheral hardware.
  • Inspect images for quality and perform post-processing as needed.
  • Develop or produce image records.
  • Administer intravenous contrast agents (e.g., gadolinium) within scope of practice.
  • Attach physiological monitoring equipment when required.
  • Monitor patients during procedures and address patient comfort by providing headphones or earplugs.
  • Request physician orders for sedatives or medications when clinically appropriate.
  • Troubleshoot MRI equipment and peripheral devices.
  • Maintain inventory of clinical supplies.
  • Document procedures and prepare reports for physicians and healthcare providers.
  • Schedule patient or research appointments.
  • Instruct medical staff or students on MRI procedures and equipment operation.
  • Operate advanced MRI applications, including functional imaging, real-time organ motion tracking, and musculoskeletal imaging when applicable.
  • Position and secure portable MRI devices when required.
  • Ensure MRI equipment functions according to established performance standards.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Responsibilities may change based on departmental and organizational needs.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a two-year AMA-approved Certificate Program or Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) Degree in Radiologic Technology.
Licensure
  • State General Radiography License (where required).
Certifications
  • ARRT Certification.
  • Advanced MRI Certification.
  • Current BLS Certification.
Experience
  • Minimum of one (1) year of MRI experience.
Preferred Skills
  • Strong knowledge of MRI safety standards and imaging protocols.
  • Excellent patient care and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.
  • Experience with image quality assessment and equipment troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of PACS and electronic medical record systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with radiologists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and comply with healthcare regulations.
